Comment:
this is where it all really starts -- my last romantic mix was kind of cohesively fractured, & more of a bridging-of-the-gaps between the now put-to-rest get fresh flow series & the mixes i'll be making for my lovely woman from here on out. filled with jangly guitar pop, subdued acoustic & piano numbers, & atmospheric harmonies, this has a pretty clear sonic approach throughout, & i personally believe it to be the greatest -- or the very least, my favorite -- mix that i've ever made. maybe i'm just biased though. i know i usually have a novel's worth of notes, but ironically, the mix i favor the most is the one i have the least to say about, as i believe the tunes speak for themselves. i've probably re-listened to this one "to make sure it was all right" & "to check transitions & flow" more times than i care to count, but i had to stall at least a little bit, as this is a valentine's day mix. perfect day to start, right? enjoy, everyone.title from the poem "somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond" by e.e. cummings, featured oh so prominently in the woody allen film, hannah & her sisters.
Feedback:
This is great and I so love the Nick Drake track.
Lovely, the 7-9 stretch is particularly great, also diggin 3,4,11,12 and 14.
This looks great from top to bottom and since I know most of these songs well, I can say that the transitions are superb.
crikey, valentines day so soon . . . thanks for reminding me . . . (do you also do reminders for anniversaries and birthdays ?)Lovely mix
faves: the beatles, magnetic fields, bob dylan, neil young and magnetic fields again.
I hear this in my head, and it's great.
I'm not too big on "romantic" mixes for the most part (nor do I see the point of Valentine's Day, for that matter), but if all of them were as good as this one looks, I'd probably have to re-evaluate my stance. As it is, I can just declare this an exception that proves the rule ;) I'm with hemizen on the Nick Drake song, especially.
Exceptional. Many, many songs I will steal and put on my romantic mix for my sweetie. Dig that Big Star track the mostest!!!
an absolutely gorgeous mix. and that e.e. cummings poem is one of my favorites of his.
Beautiful mix but a big bah humbug to Valentines Day! (Just don't tell Mrs. Frenchy I said that!)
sweetly constructed...
V-Day = 2/14 (14/2 in Europe). Mix has 2+14=16 songs. You did that on purpose you romantic devil.
I'd love to give this a listen, as it looks very, very nice.
The music does indeed stand for itself. Beautiful Mix!!
Beautiful, but the cherry on top would have been a recording of that poem (even Michael Caine pulled off that movie track), God, who wouldn't have an affair with Barbara Hershey?
somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near
your slightest look will easily unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose
or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing
(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

A tender mix. Great Blur choice- always kills me...
Nah, you're not biased. I reckon you're spot on with your best mix comment. And that really is saying something.
Love this - and as you say, perfect for the festive heart season.
Flipping hell, I thought I had already shared some pearls of wisdom about this tour de force. Ant, This is so f**king good!
This IS the best mix you have ever made! It's so good that I'm climbing down off my high horse and ignoring, like your good self, capital letters for the whole day! That's how good this mix is! I keep gazing at the track list -- brilliant! Let loving start...
Very sweet. I'll most likely be using the Dylan and Big Star tracks on *my* next romantic mix (I've been holding on to 'em for awhile) and I love most of the others. What I love most of all is that particular e e cummings poem... actually, that's my favorite cummings line...
love love love, ain't it a sweet thing?
Very very lovely ... all as they say below.
Yeah, love mix from start to finish.
Thanks for the nice compliment. :-) Adore that Big Star song - never remember how much I really do like it...
Very sweet. I love that Blur song.
i don't know how i missed this because it's such a great mix, nevermind the repeated artists because all the tracks are well chosen. extra points for the ee cummings inclusion. that's one of my top faves of his poems.
