Comment:

Well, here's another trip down memory lane, another "reformatting" of two earlier CD mixes. In case you haven't noticed, I'm working my way backward and forward concurrently. I first started posting my 2-CD mixes in cassette format with MIX #33, and at some later point I decided to go back and put my earlier 2-CD mixes in cassette format, starting with #32, then #1, #31, #2, #30, #3, #29...and now #4! (Next on my agen-da, of course, provided I haven't come up with anything new, will be #28.) I'll eventually work my way toward the middle-teens from both sides, by which time everything will have been put into the cassette format!

Well, as regards this particular mix...I'm really not quite so sure about Disc #1. Perhaps I could have done a better job, or made things flow a tad easier. By way of example, sequencing The Beatles' She's Leaving Home back-to-back with The Clash's Straight To Hell doesn't work quite as well as I initially assumed it would. But hey! It is what it is, I suppose...I also think that I (inadvertently) conjured up this weird and interesting sort of running lyrical subtext with Tracks #8-11 on Disc #1, involving the exercise of power and control over oneself or others - or the illusion thereof, as well as its breakdown.

I'm also somewhat less than convinced that Disc #2 completely works. For one thing, the vibe is somewhat lopsided, because I put so many heavy songs in the first half (Black Sabbath, Quiet Riot, Monster Magnet, Fight with Rob Halford), while the second half ten-ds to lean more toward lighter pop and al-ternative (The Pixies, The Smiths). I don't know, though - Iron Maiden does show up in the second half, so it's not completely lopsided. I also threw in a really cool prog-pop number from late '70s band Starcastle, followed by an '80s hit from Gene Loves Jezebel and a Jacques Brel cover from Manics frontman James Dean Bradfield.

And this mix does suffer a tad from The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King Syndrome, if you will, in that it's kind of stacked with multiple en-dings (ha, ha, ha)! I mean, just look at any of the last four songs: Any one of them could have made a decent finale, but I just had to pile all four of 'em on! :-)
