Comment:

As should be obvious, this is a reformatting of my past mix The Pazuzu Mix #327, only this time I burned it onto a TDK cdr rather than a Fuji. Also, long-time fans will note that this is a reformatting of The Pazuzu Mix #74, only with the Alice in Chains, Van Der Graaf Generator, and Pantera tracks replaced by cover versions performed by a kid down the block who used to know some guy who once played in W.A.S.P. You will also of course note the similarity to The Pazuzu Mix #706, which might at first appear identical due to the fact that they include the same 25 songs in exactly the same order, only this mix was burned while I ate a slice of pizza and watched some Simpsons reruns in the background and thus I needed to repost the mix with a different name. I also feel the need to point out that nobody in the history of Art of the Mix has opened a mix with that Sopwith Camel track and closed it with that Monkees song. This is very, very important.
Oh, and by the way, much like The Dark Side Of Shuffle Play Mode 1-7, this is a theme-devoid mix composed of tracks I've recently picked up, stuff lying around the house, and tunes I felt like hearing at this particular time. And, notwithstanding the title of the series, this is NOT simply a list of 25 random songs that showed up when I played my iPod in shuffle mode, because, well, that would not be a mix, or at least not one involving any sort of art. Just saying.
Been spending the holiday season curled up with Rhino's San Francisco box set (Love Is The Song We Sing) plus the Brit Box collection of 80s/90s UK dance/pop/shoegaze tunes. Both are must-own sets and make great gifts. Happy New Year, friends... see you in '08.

love the 21 to closing stretch, the buzzcocks, who, television personalities & international submarine band cuts too - the liner notes gave me quite a ripping laugh, the kind i definitely needed after a long day at work. what more can you ask for?

I am impressed by your application of Jennifer Louise, despite being taken out of context of your 48 Songs About 48 Women mix, I think it improves being followed by the outstanding Philwit & Pegasus, although I'm not entirely happy with the spelling of Of Montreal, though I'm always the first to applaud a heartfelt kick to the rudiments of conformity. I think Martian Saints holds its own between Pylon and the Clean, a slightly more subtle contrast than when you employed its use sandwiched between Yo La Tengo and Cornershop on your otherwise splendid Best Of 1997 mix. My judgement maybe a little awry as I'm picking my teeth with an old Metallica CD but I think the Green Pajamas track was more effective when it preceded Yo La Tengo on your Joy Of Segues mix and a little disturbed at your overuse of Anything Could Happen as this is the third mix it has appeared on. Admittedly you couldn't not put it on your Kiwi Rock mix but I feel it could have been more advantageously positioned at no.17 or no.21 on this mix. You finally managed to squeeze the original of Why Can't I Touch It? on a mix. Of course it is hard to find fault with the Elf Power cover but one always has to pay tribute to originals. I'm not entirely happy with Burned By The Sun to 24 Hours run as this is perhaps too gloomy but am somewhat mollified at your obvious attempt to leaven the mood by closing with the Monkees. All round I'm pretty satisfied with the result.

Hey there, Pop Kulcher! Once again, I can't complain about your title! ;-) (Although I can't seem to shake the oddest, vaguest feeling that I'm being ever-so-slightly mocked...) I like your selections from the Who, King Crimson, Joy Division and the Monkees! (Joy Division AND the Monkees?!? Now that's what I call eclectic...)

Oh, and one more thing: Not to be TOO literal-minded, but I should point out that I'm nowhere near #327 (never mind #706)! At the rate I'm going, though, I just might get there eventually! ;-)

Always good stuff on your shuffle play mixes -- and this proves to be no exception. Were you or Rupert mocking Mr. Pazuzu? Me thinks not;)- but it's nice to see that DP can take a joke.

I may get berated by my peers here but I think this is tantamount to bullying. I'm probably not as smart as you Marc so I won't engage in an intellectual debate about it but... Mr Pazazu observes the rules these days.Yes his mixes are dire and he seems to use the same bands in different order and herald himself as a genius on almost every occasion but It's a f**king website, and yes it's a community but I feel less inclined to be part of it when I see stuff like this. I'm willing to bet that more mixers (in fact I know) than just little old me thought it, I'm just the one who will say it and with gusto. If I never get a comment again so be it.
Yes I too have got on my high horse a few times but only with people who posted 4 or 5 mixes a day and Dr BLT who contributes nothing but right wing propaganda (with that sinister christian subtext)
I don't want this to become a slanging match but my 5 year old daughter is being bullied at school. It breaks my heart to see her cry and that's why I needed to do this. Happy holidays Marc and I mean that I really do.

Darth Pazuzu is a good egg. one of the things I like best about him is that he has managed to conform to the rules in spite of the fact that he REALLY likes making mixes, like, all day long. meanwhile, he's let the various AotM parodies and insults roll off his back like the proverbial water/duck thing, always remaining good-natured and even laughing along sometimes. In short, I think he's cool. Almost as cool as this mix, PK. those final three together are what really turn my crank. and Barry, that's really sad about your daughter. I guess it doesn't really work to tell a 5-year old that the bullying will help shape her into a more thoughtful and interesting grown-up when those bullies have become nothing but selfish, drunken losers, does it. why don't you just have her say this next time she's bothered by them: "I don't really care about you one way or the other, but there's a guy in Seattle, Washington who hopes you all up and die today."

Well, I think Barry makes a fair point, and I don't think ill of him in the least for making it. I'll be the first to admit I had concerns about being perceived as unfairly picking on Ol' Pazuzu (and, yes, I've gotta give the guy credit for taking the mocking better than most). Yes, the rudest ribbing should be reserved for those who repeatedly and deliberately blow off the 3-per-day guideline (and, of course, for the insipid Dr. BLT). At the same time, I do think those of us who do silly things in public -- which, of course, this website should be considered -- have to recognize they're going to be up for a bit of ribbing, myself included. I wasn't aiming to bully the good Mr. Pazuzu, and I'm not assailing his taste in music or the aesthetic vibe of his mixes (which, with a few exceptions, is a rather silly reason to critique another's mixes). On the other hand, yep, I think posting a few dozen mixes... and then reposting the identical mixes a few weeks later (only combining two pre-existing mixes into a single post) is gonna getcha some teasing.
But, in the spirit of the holiday season, I'll cop to a bit of insensitivity and try to avoid the temptation for snobbery next time. This should be a fun place for one and all, and the last thing I want to do is make anyone the least bit wary of posting for fear of some elitist schmuck (read: me) making some bitchy comment.
