Comment:

Well, here's MIX #52! I originally planned to o-pen up with Iron Maiden's "The Number Of The Beast" followed by AC/DC's "Back In Black," but then just before I started I had the brainstorm of prefacing that with ELP's cover of the English hymn "Jerusalem," which I thought would be an effective lead-in to the metal mayhem to follow! Elsewhere, I pay tribute to late Quiet Riot frontman Kevin DuBrow with "Thunderbird" (which was actually written as a tribute to former QR guitarist Randy Rhoads, who later joined Ozzy Osbourne's band). And we've got another pair of "Nuggets," plus a late '70s punk-rock gem from X-Ray Spex. I also thought it would be a cool idea to follow up GN'R's "Used To Love Her" with Social Distortion's "99 To Life" - and if you know the lyrics to both songs, you'll understand why that makes perfect sense! I also included a totally rocking live number from the soundtrack to the Monkees movie "Head," which gives the lie to the myth that the band were nothing more than puppets who didn't really play their own instruments! I'm also kind of into a Dylan phase right now, so I've got a cover from the "I'm Not There" soundtrack, plus the very song that gave the film its title - an outtake from the "Basement Tapes" sessions. The closing pairing of Starcastle and Dylan is admittedly just as peculiar as o-pening up my last mix with Metallica and the Mamas & The Papas, but at least I think it comes off okay.

Good stuff, really like the Johnny Thunders and Hanoi rocks. Cool idea to include something by QR for Kevin Debrow. By the way, did you receive my e-mail?

X-Ray Spex, what a great punk band. Poly Styrene had an amazing voice and they wrote thought provoking lyrics. My top pick on here.

To Captain Hi-Top: Yes, I did get your e-mail. I'm running a bit low on blank CD-R's right now, so I don't know when I'll be able to get new ones. Hey, that's what happens when you're this prolific! ;-)
