Comment:

The roots of my favourite band of all time -Hatfield And the North: a perfect balance of pop tunefulness, jazzy virtuosity, prog structure, and a folky sense of geographical place underpinned by an anarchically surreal sense of humour.

Since they split, only the Super Furry Animals have come close to replacing them in my affections- and for nearly all the same reasons.

Dramatis personae as follows:

Richard Sinclair (bass/vocals) appears on tracks 1,2,9,12 13
Pip Pyle (drums): tracks 3,5,12,13
Phil Miller (guitar): tracks 3,7,9,10,12,13
Dave Stewart (keys): tracks 4,6,8,11

Steve Miller was the original keyboard player and is on 3,9,12,13
He was replaced briefly by Dave Sinclair (tracks 2, 7)

Track 13 later appeared on the Hatfield's debut album; tracks 7 & 10 were part of their live repertoire and 10 can be founs as a bonus track on the "Rotter's Club" CD (or if you can find it, the quickly withdrawn best of "Afters") under the title "Oh Len's Nature". Spot the anagram.

Egg, Caravan and Gong great combination. Have to admit I don't know Hatfield, will have to investigate further.

Hmm... looks interesting. I've heard Hatfield and the North and have liked them well enough, although they've never blown me away. Perhaps I'll investigate further.

Many thanks for the link, I'll be checking this out. Don't know much about them, but I like a lot of Gong & Caravan, so looking forward...

My local bar was once a placed called The Hatfield though I'm certain I didn't ever hear one note of this there despite many an evening in it's arms. Thank's for the linky sir.
