Comment:

Well, I'm back with another mix. I gave a preview of this one (or the first eight songs) in the comments section for MIX #56, but it took me quite a while to follow up. I think I came down with a mild case of "mixer's block," but I think I've pretty much recovered from that. As a matter of fact, I'm almost finished with #58!

Anyway, this one is kind of all over the place, stylistically speaking. As is the case with practically all my mixes, the only real common denominator is that all the songs could be defined as "rock songs" to one extent or another.

This time around, we've got a lesser-known early Dylan classic, a duet between John Lennon and Elton John, a trip in the wayback machine all the way back to '58 with a hit ballad from Ricky Nelson, Smashing Pumpkins covering Fleetwood Mac, a very early Stones cover of the Coasters, an instrumental from the film score that was George Harrison's very first solo project, a classic Motorhead rumbler, Nirvana's very first single (covering the Shocking Blue), an brief acoustic insturmental from Eddie Van Halen, an Irish epic from Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy, and so much more! :-)

This is a good one. Though loaded with up-tempo rockers, it leans to the experimental side as well with the inclusion of The Germs, Trail Of The Dead, and The Pixies. The second half of disc one and the first half of disc two are really strong. The Beatles and Nirvana just work well together. To me, though, Motley Crue and Pearl Jam should never be so closely associated. Cool mix overall.

The George track intrigues me.
