Comment:

Just one day later, and I've already come up with another mix! Well...what can I say? When you've been off the grid for 40 days, you feel as though you need to make up for lost time. [*wink*]

Overall, I guess I'd say that the first disc is a bit more oriented toward hard rock and classic rock (Beatles, Who, Green Day, Aerosmith, KISS, Soundgarden, STP), while the second disc has much longer and epic material (hence its 14 songs to the first's 19), and ten-ds to be more melancholic in tone (although Metallica and Mars Volta do crank up the voltage quite a bit later on, and Led Zep brings things to a rousing finish).

At the risk of blowing my own horn too loudly, I have to say that I really scored with the last two songs on Disc One. I think Fell On Black Days and Murder By Numbers work effectively - and chillingly - well when placed together! (And you could almost say that that Floyd's menacing One Of These Days picks up the mood directly where Disc One left off.) I'm also rather proud of the Track #2-6 sequence on Disc Two (King's X through Dylan/Band), for I think I achieved a real sense of sadness, poignancy and melancholy there. I also came up almost a minute short for Disc Two, so I threw in the eerie one-minute Lullaby (from the original '73 The Wicker Man film) to shore up the running time, and in my opinion it really makes an effective prelude to Patti Smith's Where Duty Calls!

Just one more thing:
Taking my inspiration from some of the work of Captain Hi-Top, I am currently working on my very first Narrative mix right now! The songs on this 2-CD mix will weave together to tell the story of a restless young rocker named Johnny. Right now I've got a lot more songs than I can fit on two discs, so I've got just a bit of whittling down to do, but I have a feeling it'll turn out fantastic when it's finished!

I like the oddball Police songs and of course the Tears of Rage. The redneck in me is always happy to see Skynyrd as well.
