Comment:
I have been a big fan of Rius (Mexico) and Quino (Argentina) for some time now. Only one of these songs references either of them directly (Sabina's opener), although Los agachados is not only the name of a Tin Tan (also honored here) movie, but one of Rius' most famous set of characters. Taking off from there, the mix was basically about the Latin sense of humor, from Argentina to Spain to Mexico.
Posdata: This is also dedicated to Sammy and Alex, who most show these mixes amor as well as our MIAs, especially Ed and Jeff, who I know more than anybody would appreciate the intention of this mix. To paraphrase my suegra, íVuelvan, hijos, vuelvan!
Feedback:
a couple of these names look familiar from our alt.dj (which think we need to follow up soon, no?) - can't wait to dig in
It's another world but I think I'd like it. Have you heard of a Colombian singer called Lyda Zamora? I found one of her LP's in a charity shop (thrift store) today.
fabuloso y chistoso!
No llores por mi, Mexico!
No llores por mi, Mexico!
I'm completely clueless cept for track 2 side 1.
As always I only recognize a few of the artists, but have no doubt that this is definitely worthy of investigation.
Can't even get through all the english language music never mind spanish and the rest of the world. I'll be sampling this for sure, though, but I need more listening time. Help!
The few that I recognize from prior mixes with you, I know I like (El Tri, in particular), and I have no doubts that the rest is fantastic too. My education continues!
Thanks Derek, this is great. I think the first half an hour is flawless. A couple of Green-day soundalikes I could probably do without. And I'd say 3 hours is a tad on the long side for a mix. How about a One Hour 15 highlights Mix? :)
