Comment:

Well, this one's perhaps a bit of a hodgepodge, but...I don't know! It more or less seems to gel together at any rate. The thing is, there was a whole batch of songs that I had in the back of my mind to use in a mix at some point. But with a handful of exceptions, I hadn't really a clue as to how everything would flow together, and a lot of it was just sort of cobbled together on the spot! If this collection is any kind of success at all, I suppose that's a testimony to my instincts as a mixer.

NOTES, THOUGHTS, COMMENTS, EXPLANATIONS, ETC.:
1) The Movie < Awake (Is Everybody In?) < The Ghost Song / A Feast Of Frien-ds: The Severed Garden (Adagio): A series of pieces from Jim Morrison's posthumously-released spoken-word poetry album An American Prayer, with music composed by the three surviving Doors members. All of these, by the way, were used at some point in Oliver Stone's 1991 The Doors biopic!
2) Pull Me Under < Babylon: Heavy, epic prog rock, American-style! This weeken-d, I bought myself four new CD's. Two of them were Dream Theater's new 2-CD best-of compilation, Greatest Hit (...And 21 Other Pretty Cool Songs) and Starcas-tle's reunion disc Song Of Times, released posthumously after the death of founding member and bassist Gary Strater (R.I.P.)
3) Creep: I also got the Special Editon 2-CD version of Radiohead's new Greatest Hits. Yeah, I guess this song's a bit of an obvious choice, being their biggest hit and all, but it's still my favorite of theirs (so far)!
4) I Can Only Give You Everything: My fourth CD purchase this weeken-d was the special 3-CD edition of Van Morrison's Still On Top: The Greatest Hits. But...here's the kicker: I Can Only Give You Everything isn't on it at all! (I know! Crazy, right?) I took the song from the Nuggets II box set my brother got me for my last birthday.
5) Locomotive Breath / Cross Eyed Mary: Sadly, I still don't have any Jethro Tull discs in my collection. (An absence I hope to correct at some future date.) But I do have these two '80s heavy-metal cover versions of songs from their 1971 Aqualung disc. These two covers were originally issued as B-sides.
6) Mr. Spaceman < Starman: I trust no explanation is really needed here? [*wink*]
7) The Captive Heart < Goin' Down < Creeping Death: Startled newcomers to my method/madness can rest assured: This actually isn't the most insane bit of sequencing I've indulged in! (I know. Scary thought, right?)
8) Armenia City In The Sky / Something In The Air: It's rock 'n' roll pop-quiz time, boys and girls! What are the two things which connect these two songs?
9) Go Tell Somebody: For die-hard fans, a new King's X album is always a very special occasion! (Even if it's a sadly underhyped one - *sigh*!)
10 Dali's Car: I must admit, this dissonant Captain Beefheart instrumental from Trout Mask Replica was mainly thrown in as something to shore up the running time of Disc #2 past the 78-minute mark (which I don't like to go under!). But I think it en-ded up working rather effectively as an intro to Van Der Graaf's Chemical World! (By the way, this is heartily dedicated to avocado rabbit, with whom I am presently working on on Al-ternating-DJ collaboration, a man called duuuuuuude, and all the other Beefheart fans out there!)
11) Hey! Hey! Hey! < Biff! Bang! Pow!: Well, what can I say? I've never gone out with six exclamation points before, so when the opportunity presented itself...[*wink*] The final number is warmly dedicated to infinity girl and KathrynandRupert!

I love all the Beck and Rod songs, too bad Rod the Mod has gone to seed...

Wow. Multiple Tull covers on the same mix. Great introduction, as well.
