Comment:

NOTE: Because of the, how shall I say, decidedly draconian methods that are currently being used to protect this website from viruses and hackers, I've had to "spell out" certain words instead of actually using them in a normal fashion! I've bracketed, capitalized, italicized and boldfaced these words in order to better pinpoint them when things return to normal and I can restore them to their proper spelling!

My mixes are going to be a bit fewer and farther between for a while, because right now I'm waiting on a couple more CD's that I've recently special-ordered, and I'm planning to use songs from them in my next couple of mixes. I recently ordered the Girl, Interrupted soundtrack (from the 1999 film starring Winona Ryder) as well as two box sets: Deep Purple's Shades 1968-1998 and New Order's Retro. (New Order's not necessarily 100% my cup of tea, but I'm still very interested in them since I'm a huge fan of Joy Division.) I'm not going to be any more specific, but you can expect to see a couple songs from these discs in my upcoming mixes!

NOTES, THOUGHTS, COMMENTS, EXPLANATIONS, ETC.:
1) Yes < Last Exit < Scentless Apprentice: In my humble opinion, a kil-ler o-pening trifecta, A.K.A. "The Perfect Storm"! The more abrasive and anguished side of early-to-mid-'90s alt-rock angst, hopefully nicely summing up a period of time for not only me but others! :-)
2) Deny: My personal favorite song from The Clash's self-titled 1977 debut. Why this was left off the original U.S. edition is certainly beyond me!
3) Here Comes The Night < U-Mass: Nick Gilder < The Pixies?? Well, ya gotta admit, stranger things have happened! In this case, they've both kinda got this straightahead, mid-tempo 4/4 rock groove, and they're both in the same key, and so I came up with the last-minute brainstorm of using them both back to back!
4) California Sun: This was actually a mistake! It's a long story, but basically I had originally inten-ded to put The Ramones' cover of Surfin' Bird here, but when programming my CD player I hadn't been aiming properly when pressing a certain button with my remote control...and I en-ded up with California Sun instead. Damn! Well...I suppose it still works, but I'm still think Surfin' Bird would have worked even better. (Don't worry, I'll make up for it by finding an even better use for the other song on my next mix disc!)
5) Mars < Third Eye < The Call Of Ktulu: Infernal heavy/prog/metal maelstrom, baby! (And another "elimination" - Metallica's Ride The Lightning (1984)!)
6) Love Goes On < Love Is The Only Place / Let Love Rule / Bold As Love: Bit of a recurring motif here...obviously! :-) (BTW, Love Goes On is the very first Renaissance track I've used by the original lineup featuring former Yardbirds Keith Relf and Jim McCarty, along with Keith's sister Jane on vocals. Every other Renaissance track I've used on earlier mixes is from the later lineup fronted by Annie Haslam.)
7) Say Hello To The Pope < Live And Let Die: I put the Manics' mighty JDB back to back with his childhood idol Slash!
8) Back 2 The Base: Admittedly a space-filler, inten-ded to shore up the running time. A rather slight bit of punk rockabilly, this one's lyrics apparently concern some knife-wielding nutjob on a bus ranting and raving profanely about the president!
9) Food For Your Soul < Emerald < Sea Diver < Bold As Love: This closing sequence is actually the first thing I thought of when I starting putting the mix together in my head! :-)

Don't know many of the tunes, but it's a very intriguing genre mix. I like that you bookE-N-Ded the Moody Blues with The Ramones and Soundgarden! The last segment from G 'n' R on is really an interesting combination of punk and prog, which promises to be sonically chunky. Wow.
