Comment:

Wow! Yet another quintuple-elimination! (#173 - 5/28/09):
Black Sabbath - "Never Say Die!" (1978)
Peter Hammill - "Chameleon In The Shadow Of The Night" (1973)
Mott The Hoople - "Brain Capers" (1972)
Alice In Chains - "Facelift" (1990)
Van Halen - "Van Halen II" (1979)
NOTE: I've decided that from now on I'm NOT going to fully capitalize the bands/artists' names anymore, just because it looks kind of...well...a bit blocky and undifferentiated, actually not quite as legible, and - truth be told - more than just a little overly bombastic-looking! :-)

"DJ" < "I Thank You" - (Isaac Hayes R.I.P.) Yeah, I guess it's kind of unexpected, but I just thought that rhythmically they kind of flowed together!

"Friends" - This little-known Police number was originally the B-side to "Don't Stand So Close To Me" (in the U.S.) and "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" (in the U.K.). Yet another of those quirky, eccentric oddities from the mind of guitarist Andy Summers (who also sings), it would superficially appear to refer to cannibalism, but it was actually inspired by the practice of "grokking" from Robert A. Heinlein's 1961 sci-fi novel "Stranger In A Strange Land"!

"Someone's In The Wolf" < "Abba Zaba" - Another of those offbeat, unexpected transitions I like to think of as my "speciality"! ;-)

"Arabian Disco" < "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" < "The Revenge Of Vera Gemini" - Yup! That's right, it's my favorite triple-bill once again! Actually it didn't occur to me at the time, but the line "Oh no more horses, horses / We're gonna swim like a fish" from "The Revenge Of Vera Gemini" is highly appropriate coming after Radiohead's "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi"!

"Sistinas" - Even though Glenn Danzig has this reputation as a dark and sinister modern punk/metal icon, many aspects of his singing style harken back to old-school rock 'n' roll vocalists such as Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison. This gentle ballad from the third Danzig disc serves as a prime example of Glenn's '50s/'60s crooning style, so much so that in some alternate universe it may have stood a chance at being a mainstream crossover hit! (Although strictly speaking, it's not overly commercial, and Glenn's image is probably way too threatening for the pop mainstream in any case!)
