Only one elimination this time (#177 - 5/31/09):
Blue Oyster Cult - "Cultosaurus Erectus" (1980)

May 31st - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
Yes, I'm well aware that this is one of a total of FOUR mixes I posted in one day, and I know that you're really only supposed to post THREE per day. But hey! It happens to be my birthday! You wouldn't, like, seriously begrudge me this one little extra indulgence, would ya?? ;-)

"Harry's Circumcision: Reverie Gone Astray" - An rather gruesome tale from Lou Reed...and a very, very sad one as well! :-( :-( :-(

"Shades Off (Poem)" < "Boy" - Not the original versions from Ian Hunter's 1975 self-titled solo debut, but alternate versions from the same sessions.
"Crash" - Less than a minute long, this is an atmospherically creepy bass guitar number from Anthrax's Frank Bello, who also quietly whispers the sparse lyrics.

"Real Cool Time" < "Someone To Talk To" - It was a last-minute brainstorm to put this early Stooges number and this late Police B-side written and sung by Andy Summers back-to-back. They could almost be about the same guy trying to have a "real cool time" with some cool chick but ultimately getting burned. ("It's me that's on fire, not this cigarette / I was stabbed in the back by that young suffragette")

"Innocence" < "Mother Superior" - A pair of tracks from some obscure bands from the early '90s. Mindfunk was a kind of supergroup whose members were kind of from the fringes of the heavy rock and hardcore scenes. Singer Patrick Dubar used to be in a punk outfit called Uniform Choice, drummer Reed St. Mark was formerly a member of Celtic Frost, guitarists John Monte and Louis Svitek were originally members of the Billy Milano-fronted M.O.D. (and Svitek was also a member of Ministry for a time), and bassist Jason Everman played second guitar with Nirvana and bass for Soundgarden! (SIDE NOTE: Everman didn't actually play on any albums by either band, although he's pictured on the cover of Nirvana's "Bleach." He played bass with Soundgarden after Hiro Yamamoto left and before they hired Ben Shepherd.) And Blitzspeer was fronted by Phil Caivano, originally a member of a band called Shrapnel and who later played guitar with Monster Magnet for a time!

"Orgasm" - The closing number from the self-titled debut from Perry Farrell's post-Jane's Addiction outfit Porno For Pyros. I was briefly stuck for something to fit between the Police's "Someone To Talk To" and Page & Plant's "Sons Of Freedom," and this was sort of a last-minute brainstorm. I think it works, anyway...

I really like side 2 here. Though, maybe I'm just slightly biased to the Blue Oyster Cult pick : ) anyway happy belated birthday!
