Comment:
a mix of hiphop that features women. some tracks obviously have male performers, but the ladies show on every song. believe you me. this is my first go at such a thing. i will perfect it in the near future. and yes, the title aims for irony.Feedback:
this is great! but where is princess superstar?
you should check out def harmonic as well, some killer female ryhmes up on it.
I'm sure this is very nice, even if i don't recognize a single thing on here. I'm more familiar with the old school stuff -- Queen Latifah, Roxanne Shante, Monie Love, etc.
princess superstar is probably still hanging around the trailerpark.
princess superstar is for white people who listen to indie rock. and while i am a white person who listens to indie rock, i don't need to propagate such trends. come to think of it, i don't think there are any whities on this mix at all. pretty surprising considering the state of hiphop these days. peace
I see your point about princess superstar, but in the meantime she does have some "legit" collaborators and supporters...and by "legit" I mean black people who listen to hip hop. If you're the person who emailed me about the gentrification of hip hop, I think for your next mix you should leave out eve, outkast, jay z and missy. peace
to say that eve, jay-z, and outkast are contributing factors in the gentrification of hiphop, i fear that you are sadly mistaken. because they are being played on mainstream radio has little to do with the gentrification (read: whitening) of hiphop. all three of the artists youve cited have been in/around this game for quite awhile. they know street life. and they know how to grow up and turn their skill into a money-making venture while also maintaining some skill and a notion of what street life is like. i dont suppose aesop rock can tell you much about thug life.
