Comment:
So I had this thought - to do an all bubblegum mix. That lost its charm pretty quickly, despite my affinity for the 1910 Fruitgum Company and Ohio Express. On another mix, it was suggested to compile a disc detailing past relationships - that seemed pretty dangerous. Then I figured I'd do a mix of 70s AM pop hits that I was still nostalgic over. Once I discovered a couple discs full of tv themes, I decided it might be fun (if a bit sick) to compile an autobiographical sketch - songs that meant something to me at the time, as a dopey kid in the early 1970s. It started off as a laugh, then turned kinda weird. I can't tell if this was a bad idea or not. Has anyone else done anything like this lately? By the way, I know that some of these songs are pretty gross - "Playground in my mind" is somewhat torturous. Still, that SWAT theme kicks ass. And as for the "Wonder Woman" theme...... uh, I plead Linda Carter lust. No apologies for two Melanie songs - I still love her. But then, I don't really apologize for any of this self-serving drivel! This is how I get to spend a few days off from work.Feedback:
i think this is great... makes me wanna revisit my childhood too...
Oh yes, this is great. As a child of the 70s, I can relate. I'm almost embarassed to say that I recognize every song on here! And yes, Rhythm Heritage's Theme from SWAT does kick some major ass.
I recall one drunken night at the now defunct City Gardens in Trenton, New Jersey where I witnessed the Replacements tear through what appears to be this set list.
Yeah, I recognize these, too. Great mix, Sean.
smashing. I feel like putting on a muppets lp or something...... Lots of nice memories opened up again here. well done
Yes! From the days when Saturday Morning TV was cool, and AM radio played music instead of the ramblings of right-wing fanatics! I miss King Vitamin!
King Vitamin cereal.... wasn't that the poor man's Captain Crunch? Didn't they have cardboard masks on the back of each box. Now THAT'S marketing.
King Vitamin was great! Geez, that was the best part of Saturday morning.
This looks great Sean. I've kicked the autobiographical mix idea around too. You've got to get back to work before my trade requests from you become too excessive.
Yup, this is indeed a trip back in time for me too.
Yes, I too can relate to this one. Most of my exposure to pop music back then came from television shows..so I have some pretty strange and specific memories of music from those days...from the Monkees to School House Rock, to Land of the Lost. But especially, all those "rock 'n' roll" bands that guest starred on various cartoons or sit-coms, like the Way-Outs, The Mosquitos and of course, The Beau Brummelstones. This a wonderful trip down nostalgia lane.
hey man , i think we are in the same age ;-)
Great idea & mix!
I think I'm gonna do a mix like this . I have "you need me" by the Honey bee's. "member them from Gilligan's Island. You rock Mrs. Howell
this is killer, i love stuff like this
Yep, this is indeed great... and very similar to what I'd end up with if I focused on my childhood years. Though I'd need to add some Bay City Rollers. Oh, lord, you've got "Shannon" here... why, oh why, does that falsetto chorus still haunt me 30 years later? I don't even like dogs!
