Comment:
A mix commissioned by Thom Mohr, after I commissioned him to do the excellent German Girls mix a few months ago. In case you haven't heard, bastard pop (a.k.a. bootlegs) is an unauthorized recording of a rapper's/singer's voice placed over the music of another artist. Of course stuff like this dates back to the earliest days of hip hop (remember Grandmaster Flash's "It's Nasty" with the Tom Tom Club sample?), but it's currently all the rage in the UK. Several websites have sprung up that host hundreds of these creations, but I think these are some of the best. I'm sure they're not everyone's cup of tea, but I dare anyone not to smile while hearing some of these unusual pairings. The last track is actually the intros to about 60 pop songs from the last 40 years mixed seamlessly together -- a bit like "Stars on 45" on crack.Feedback:
this is pretty fun, gimme a drink and i'm dancing at your party esp enter the bitch number
Thank you Ion! You've saved me hours of wasted time on audiogalaxy. Now I can reintroduce myself to my family.
Looks pretty cool, Ion.
Nice collection Ion. I have heard a few of these. I don't know why but I have the sudden urge to go dig out The Residents THE THIRD REICH 'N' ROLL. Anyway, look forward to hearing this.
Great.
i can testify to the great fun of this poppy bastard collection. nearly lures me back into the clubs!
I know nothing about this type of stuff, but I am willing to learn! I'd like a copy at some point
Fangs, man. Can't wait to hear this. And the cover looks cool, too. Dat yer mum?
Woo, I think I need this one also. That Freelance Hellraiser track was one of the best tunes I heard all last year.
I haven't heard of this stuff either, but it looks like this century's version of Dickie Goodman's Mr. Jaws! I'll be checkin' it out soon.
I've not heard of this stuff, myself, but it looks good!
Can you put me on the list?
Can you put me on the list?
Man, this takes me back to last spring... Every week at Trash we'd hear all of these- now bootlegs are over in the scene, but it's funny cause I now hear them on the radio and obviously they've gotten to America- crazy crazy...
I defy anyone to listen to this and then try (desperately) to count how many different songs are used in that last piece by OSYMYSO....! Stellar work here Ion! Enjoying it muchly.....
This looks amazing! I'd love to try and work out a trade for this!!
