Comment:

Its disciples invented modern mathematics and built the Taj Mahal; though its holy book, the Qur'an, differs from both the Bible and the Torah, its followers worship the same Supreme Being as the Christians and the Jews; its believers make up nearly a quarter of the people on planet Earth. And because no one style of song can capture Islam's breadth, we're taking a tour across the globe — not to mention a sweeping range of music — to bring you a taste of this faith's sound, in all its colors. What better place to begin than with the traditional "Adhan - Call to Prayer," rendered daily in mosques across the globe, and cut live at the world-famous Abbey Road studios by Shaam? In a sort of qawwali supergroup, the Sabri Brothers team up with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on the love devotional "Mera Piya Ghar Aaya," written by 18th-century Punjabi poet Bulleh Shah. But faith isn't to be found only in a mosque, and prayers are sometimes served up to our fellow man, as the multi-ethnic, multi-religious Danish band Outlandish proves in the politically charged hip-hop of "Look Into My Eyes," with its plea for tolerance and understanding. From Yusuf Islam to Nancy Ajram, we bring you many sounds from many places — geographically and spiritually — as we pay tribute to the world's fastest-growing religion.
