Despite the common Gay Pride ground that unites these artists, the range of styles and musical shades could not be more diverse, as we take you from Patricia Barber’s incredible, languid cover of “Light My Fire” — which runs from one phrase to the next like mercury — to Sick of Sarah’s rocked-up trip to the edge of sanity, “Not Listening.” Kaki King showcases her incredible guitar technique on “Bari Improv,” Holly Near underscores her jaunty saloon-room vibe (on “I Ain’t Afraid”) with a staunch secular message, and one-of-a-kind folk freak Phranc sets out her agenda while coming over confident, proud, and funny on “Bulldagger Swagger.”
