Comment:
The fifth volume in the People's Republic of Cool series.Recommended Reading: "A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane's Signature Album" by Ashley Kahn. An exhaustively researched, painstakingly detailed and above all INTERESTING chronicle of the album and Trane's career. If you don't care for Jazz, this book will make you care for Jazz.
Feedback:
Oh yes! I am looking forward to this one. Always happy to get artists I don't already own, like Ornette Coleman and Sidney Bechet. If you have not seen Albert Brooks' Defending Your Life, rent it and watch it. Following Rip Torn's line, jazz is THE music that makes me think I can actually use more than 3% of my brain. Thanks for the mix, and for the further reading.
looks good man
Great mix. I've read a bio of Coltrane and will have to get this new book. I recently read Kind of Blue: The Making of the Miles Davis Masterpiece and So What: The Life of Miles Davis. More great stuff to make you care about jazz. The Miles Davis autobiography is also very entertaining.
Great choices! cool from coltrane to coltrane . . .
A great mx of classic stuff!
