Romance (Exuberance)
Comment:
This is the first mix of a 4-CD set in honor of love and romance. To start things off, I wanted to focus on the elation and excitement of falling in love. The other 3 sets will emphasize other tones, but still, the overriding idea is that love is a many splendored thing. I'm not at the bitter break-up stage, hence the corniness of all these songs. On that note, even though I suspect most AOTMers will either ignore or dislike what I've done, if anyone has any suggestions for what romantic/love songs I could include to improve the state of these mixes, I'd happily appreciate the feedback. If anyone's willing, that isFeedback:
Not to come down on you like the proverbial ton of bricks, but this is the weakest of the lot. Call me a hopeful romantic, but never have I ever felt that the way to a girl's heart is with Me 1st + the Gimme Gimmes. Then again, what the hell do I know about women these days? Nothing, that's what. This was an ambitious set of mixes you threw down here- kudos for the effort alone. Ah, it's funny how women can affect (infect?) us. I speak from experience when I say: 1st loves always come in last. Out.
For the record, that Proclaimers song is 1 of the top 5 most annoying songs in the history of music (+ I'm including the initial prehistoric attempts using bones + rocks + branches strung with musk-ox hair.) Fuck.
Y'know, not that I'm wussing out to confrontation, but I agree. This (and the serious one) seemed the most ungainly, the least successful, and this one in particular felt somewhat juvenile. I'm sorry. I also regret adding the Proclaimers song; although I still like it quite a lot, it doesn't really belong on the CD, and good or bad, it's way too played out by now.
But thanks for being honest. Maybe I'll just keep this one for myself. There are still some tracks I think are essential (Willy Wonka, O.A.R., Fastball, Swirl 360), but it could use some (much) work. Oy

i think me first and the gimme gimmes is romantic. not in a conventional way -- but in a quirky way. everytime i hear their version of "danny's song", it makes me think of my boyfriend and i smile. and "shining light" is just a BRILLIANT choice. :)
