Comment:

I'm sure there are plenty of amazing hardcore bands out there that I either forgot about or haven't heard of yet, so yeah. This is still a great hardcore mix in my opinion, and if you're new to hardcore, listening to these songs should get you well on your way. And yes, i do know that thursday is melodic-core, and hatebreed is more metalcore....just leave me alone.

i'm not going to leave you alone...this is a piss-poor representation of hardcore, period. if you negate the history of punk rock and hardcore before 1996, this is a-ok. it has nothing to do with cool bands you forgot or haven't heard of. it's all about bands that actually matter. in context, i could sacrifice every song on this playlist, even converge (i'm from the boston area, i saw almost every show they played for their first 2 years of existence) for one black flag song. go read "american hardcore: a tribal history" or "we got the neutron bomb." go buy some early la, dc, boston, and even new york compilations. there's nothing "101" about this. "metalcore" and "melodic-core" aren't even real terms. i'm not asserting any snobbery or anything, but there are impressionable kids that might see this and actuall think that glassjaw or poison the well has something to do with hardcore. and that would be a crime.

alright, ironynotincluded...you're absolutely right. i guess a mix entitled hardcore 101 really should include the history of hardcore. my mistake. i guess i'll just rename this one something boring like "hardcore".

glassjaw and poison the well aren't hardcore? i'm not saying they invented it or anything, but come on...let's not kid ourselves, and let's give credit where credit is due.
