Comment:
apologies to Queens of The Stone Age, At the Drive-In, & The Faint (especially considering "Your Retro Career Melted" would have been perfect for this mix)...but those bands didn't really fit this mix (even if ATDI may prove to be the most important band of this decade when the whole thing is said and done). This is sort of a What If? Rhyno Comp from 10 years in the future when we are caught up in a Grunge/Alt.Rock Revival (God willing, i have alot of sonic youth and nirvana t-shirts still lying around just dying to be sold on ebay). is this the music that kids are gonna be nostalgic for? instead of trying to capture all the seperate facets of the rock scene of the early 2000s i focused strictly on the garage rock, nu-rock revivalists and the post-punk revivalists since it's all been about rehashing the old and making it new again. now i would never be so stupid as to consider the Strokes to be nearly as important a band as Nirvana (actually i'd consider that bullshit) but they are the band that started this whole rock n' roll revival. with mainstream rock n' roll at the turn of the century being about as interesting as a pet rock it was a breath of fresh air to hear Is This It? now all the haters can say what they will about a bunch of well connected rich boys writing a bunch of songs that rip off the modern lovers, blondie, the buzzcocks, and richard hell but hey you're just jealous you didn't think of it first. at least i am anyways. so blah blah blah, here are some of my favorite songs form the 1st 4 years of our new decade. i do find it odd that mall punk emo took over the airwaves considering that all the good emo bands that ever exisited had all pretty much broken up by the turn of the century but whatever. i guess the 16 year girls dig it now that they've grown out of N*Sync.Feedback:
yeah i know the title is so obvious it hurts.
Nicely put. And who influnence the Stones and the Beatles?
It sure is amazing how the times change, isn't it? I am personally still waiting for the Strokes to catch up to their hype, which has far exceeded their talents. (*gunshot*) But you have valid points and you mix is very solid! I would like to see a "B-Sides" with the left out bands, just to complete the thought. Anyways, fine mixing!
does anyone actually live up to their hype? James Brown, The Beatles, Little Richard, Robert Johnson, The Velvet Underground, The Stooges.....ehhh that's about it.
some of the best of the recent stuff I've been listening to
Sure, plenty of acts live up to their hype, it depends which keyhole you have your ear to. It's just not all of them get the hype of the Strokes, who I merely think are getting too much credit for work that is good not great. Still, I like the mix! (I was planning one of my own with a similar theme)
well one band that's new album is gonna be totally worthy of hype is the new Icarus Line cd. a friend of mine from LA sent me an advanced copy ans it's fucking awesome. sounds like all the things i love about The Birthday Party, Jesus Lizard, and The Stooges all rolled into one record.
This looks good to m...the French Kicks are a real cool band. My friend just let me borrow that CD, and it's pretty cool. How about Ryan Adams tho? Rock N Roll is one of the few good rock n roll CD's to come out lately. They called The Strokes "saviors of rock" before Is This It even hit the shelves...but I tell you what, there is hardly someone out there who does plain rock like Ryan Adams does. Anyway, not to slight the Strokes, I own both CD's and like them a lot. I like the Dandy Warhols on here too, they are really awesome. This overall is the best stuff to come out recently.
sorry i hate Ryan Adams.
I'd thought of doing a mix like this, and it would have looked a LOT like this! I think the Natural History and Moving Units deserve to be included as well. Great mix.
that's hilarious.... the last comment.
the 'the' mix
