Comment:
2 cd's chock full o' the best tracks from the glory days of New Zealand indie rock, assorted interrelated bands (primarily on the great Flying Nun label). Most of these bands peaked in the early/mid '80s, though several continue to kick around in one form or another. Can't say I listen to this as much as I used to, though I still spend plenty of time with early Clean, Bats, and Chills (and last year's phenomenal compilation of remastered Clean is a must-own for anyone with a love of classic Velvet Underground and garage bands). Special thanks to Dale for contributing many of the Tall Dwarfs & Chris Knox tracks.Feedback:
very cool.
I'll second that.
Those were good times, and this was good music . . .
Thomas said it all
I went through a huge Flying Nun phase which started with the Clean and Tall Dwarfs and kicked into overdrive when I got the In Love With These Times comp in the late 80's. Strangely I'll agree with you about not listening to many of these bands as much as I used to (Chills and Tall Dwarfs still get rotation in this household). And I'll second the sentiments on the Clean comp - a must own disc. Great opening cut. The only LBGP cut I know is "Cactus Cat" off the ILWTT comp and I love that song but have never actually even seen an album by them. Great stuff.
This is excellent!
P the Swede saying that Thomas said it all says it all.
Outstanding! Fantastic selections from the fine LBGP, as well as the Clean, Chills, Bird Nest Roys and George Straitjacket Fits. I was a big fan of NZ bands in the late 80s as well. Unfortunately I'm pretty unfamiliar with today's NZ music scene.
Kick-ass, fantastic, phenomenal, worth worshipping, etc. It makes me want to finish my Marley mixes so we can talk additional trades (once I get those to you).
A nice overview of the scene.
go New Zealand!
