I'm a fool to try and limit Billy Holiday to one disc but if I catch one person's eye it will be worth it. When Billie sings it you know its been sung. Billie's my favorite singer-ever. Listen to an early song like What A Little Moon Light Can Do and compare it to something off her last album like For Heaven's Sake. From a light, smooth voice to a hard lived, almost gone voice. Yet the emotion that is released from her soul through that nearly ruined voice will make your heart stop beating.Feedback:
You're missing two of my favourites, Strange Fruit and One for My Baby (One More for The Road). But then again this is, well, YOUR mix, right?! ; ) I like latter-day Holiday for the multitude of (mostly melancholy) textures, but your mix does a good job of covering it all.
beautifully executed mix, good morning heartache is my all time favorite song for when i'm feeling blue ... i agree with lost & miss the inclusion of strange fruit... bravo!
Right. Obviously, "Strange Fruit" is a fave of mine, as well. But it's your mix. And it's a great one. And I've often thought of doing this, but just can't bring myself to attempt it.
Strange Fruit was Billie's signature song. However, that song takes me to places I do not like to go. Also obviously one disc should not be attemmpted. Ken Burns "The Definitive Billie Holiday" is a good single disc starting point though "Lady In Satin" is my favorite BH cd.
Not the biggest Billie Holiday fan but this looks pretty cool.

A definitive single disc is impossible as far as Billie is concerned. But you got pretty dang close. (I'm a strange fruit fan too...the music, not the reality)
hey Terry. This is very like my "lady sings sings the blues" mix from way back. Even down to the exclusion of "strange fruit". Not one of m6y favs either. A brilliant mix, and a fine tribute to my fav female singer ever. Nice one.
