"I'll play it now and tell you what it is later."
-Miles Davis

ether_jazz: brass fantasies, sustained counter melodies, subliminal fusion...
& elemental moods. Part 1 of 2.
(About one-third ripped from vinyl. I've been trying to utilize
that Bowie track for quite some time now; but it never has fit into any of my ambient
motifs. Wanted to mix some Marsalis in too [whose Think of One & Black Codes from
the Underground albums I'll defend as great jazz, anytime ;-)])

I'm not mad on Bowie's poppy stuff (too cute for my tastes), but I like the other picks. Great mix.

I like the idea of ether jazz. I'm not familiar with most of the tracks but am intrgued, I may hit you up for the sources to some of them so I can give them a listen. Great Miles Davis quote!

Thanks for the feedback. That Bowie cover is one of my favorite pieces of avant- jazz; roughly 10"-11", played entirely off-key...with 9 blairing horns.

Great stuff Gene. I'm with you on Bowie and the "Think of One" album (which I listened to just yesterday in fact).

I must admit to not being familiar with THIS Brass Fantasy piece, but I've heard a few of their albums and I don't much care for them. Odd that it'd be so "avant", as the BF stuff I've heard is pretty conventional.

Looks brilliant, Gene. I love the Miles Davis pick especially. Happy New Year, my friend.

I added a link to the BF album's page up top (NOTE: the link doesn't play the track--it opens a page on which all the album's tracks are playable via WMP or Realplayer).

didn't I comment on this one? or did I say something that offened you? if so I'm sorry, looking brilliant anyway.

Nothing offensive, Peter; perhaps you simply thought you had dropped a comment but heard the tea kettle whistling in the kitchen and, after dashing off to pour a cup...moved on without realizing that you had not offended me.
;-]...thanks forthe comments everyone!

Looking mighty fine - and I totally agree w/you on "Black Codes" as great jazz. I'm not as familiar w/"Think of One" - will have to search it out.

Today I've been *really* enjoying this compilation.
Especially liked the Garbarek, what album is that piece from ? Great to hear the Metheny again (I have the album here somewhere).
And I've always enjoyed anything by Weber............ a might fine collection overall.
Thanks!
