Duck Tape
Comment:
Funny, as you all know, the feel of a mixed CD is different from the feel of a mixed tape... the analog copying process gives you the 'reflection time' to select the next track with tapes, and with CDs, you (well I) pick a bunch of tuneage and fit them onto the disc... Not better, not worse, just different. I love mixing CDs, but I do miss letting one song help 'pick' the next. With this CD that's what I made a conscious effort to do... I tried to compile it using the same thought and feel 'processes' that I used with cassettes...
Feedback:
Begins and ends brilliantly. The bits inbetween are pretty damned good also.
Brilliant! The El Rayo-X to Simon and Billy C. Wirtz to Knack transitions are inspired.
While I, too, miss the spontaneity of making mix tapes -- the apprehensive, agonizing feeling of wondering whether that last song can squeeze onto the side! -- I can't see ever going back. (Actually, I can't, as I've boxed up my old cassette player.) While there was certainly something fun about listening to a mix tape and cringing at your irreversible missteps, it's an awful lot better having a mix cdr where you've been able to take the extra time to work through the song selection and ordering.
As an old taper, nice job and sentiments!
It never occured to me but yes i miss making mix tapes. You'd get to the end of each side and try and judge how long was left and (in my case) never fit that last goddamned song on. The tape would go black-white and there would still be 15 seconds of the song remaining. Damn! Anyway waffle over, fine mix Artie.
Very cool. The Knack with Santana, Wow! Great cover as well.
First of all, love this mix, damned fine! I liked the bounce around feel of it...Second, from a long time taper to mix discer (nice word, does it exist?), I have to profess a certain level of confusion... when you have a tad at the end, and I would always pop the tape out near the end to check, well then friends, run the VCR through the tape machine, pull off some groovy quotes, or run some comedy in a the end... loved it then, and am trying to work it in now.I use (when I have the time, life do get in da way, y'nowhuddimean??) an audio editing program to pop one in hear and there...
April, THANKS for the comments!!! It seems that I spend A LOT of time at the last 5 seconds of one track and the first 5 seconds of the next... but the transitions are important. As an editing program I use "Cool Edit", very powerful and very reasonable, and, now very unavailable. They sold to a company and now it costs a LOT. Any advice for other tools...frindly mixers???
i love this
