Now there's a handsome man. And the only Beatle that mattered! Track 20 is my favorite here.

Orchid -- "the only Beatle that mattered"? Blasphemy! Paul, particularly on the production/arrangement side (but also as a songwriter) was John's equal in the band, no doubt about it. As for the songs, can't argue with most of these, but I would drop a lot of the earlier stuff in favor of later classics like "Tomorrow Never Knows," "She Said, She Said," "Revolution," "I Am The Walrus," "Dear Prudence," "Don't Let Me Down," etc.

I was half teasing... I was really just trying to get under Mohr's skin since we all know he hates John with a passion. Still, Paul doesn't do a darn thing for me, never has and never will. (although I'll probably change my mind at any moment).

Interesting picks from the late-great Mr. Lennon. Good to see 'Girl' and 'Rain' on here, but where is 'She Said, She Said'?? (My personal favorite.)
In any case, this is still a great selection! (P.S. John's also my favorite Beatle...)

Awesome snapshot of one of the most influential songwriter's in popular music. I mean, how many writers can create timeless masterpieces and still address issues of the day?!? I am convinced that if John Lennon came out as a solo artist sooner or was never in the Fab Four he could have reached Bob Dylan status. And, probably, still alive.

Like many people of a certain age I love the Beatles. The constant John versus Paul debate has always irritated me. In order for The Beatles to exist, both were required -- add George and Ringo and there you have it -- The Beatles. Let's pursue this 'John was the best' nonsense no further. He was a great songwriter, musician and performer. He was also human and prone to all that implies. The same may be said of Paul. I believe that John and Paul deserve equal stature in our memories. We cannot truly know them. We can only make or judgements based on our own personal prejudices and tastes. I, for example am always irritated by the politicising of music, the labelling of an artist as a "protester" or, god forbid, a "role model". Let's leave the saving of the planet to Sting, Bono and Sir Bob if we can't be bothered to save it ourselves. I'm assuming it needs "saving" in the first place. There, you see, I got sidetracked. I pretty much love John Lennon's entire body of work, with one or two annoying and spiteful exceptions. Like Paul McCartney he is a hero of mine. This has nothing to do with anything other than the music they made, together and separately. An awesome body of work that will forever be an important part of my life. One more thing, then I'll shut up I promise. It is madness to compare John Lennon to Bob Dylan and neither of them would thank you for it. If John were alive today and had written great songs constantly for the last 25 years, it would still be madness. In the rock era, there has never been a more unique and remarkable songwriter than Bob Dylan. That is a fact. Argue all you want, it's still a fact. I'm not even saying he's my favourite artist - that's The Beatles - but he is untouchable and therefore, incomparable to anyone. Let me conclude ("Thank god!" I hear you say) I love this mix - see I remembered - It's a collection of fabulous songs by one of my all time rock heroes and a member of my favourite band. The creator of the mix nimue429, merely states that these are the "best songs by john.. for their time." I won't argue. They're brilliant and so was he. He wasn't the best Beatle - there's no such thing -- or the best anything, he was John Lennon and I'm grateful he existed.

Ok, I've done some research - he was the guy that beat up his wives, was unfaithful and funded the IRA . . . . .

ok, I admit, he is a musical genius and my personal fave from the Fab 4. He had some issues tho . . . . .

To compare Lennon and Dylan was probably a bad move but the John vs Paul debate was fueled by the band themselves (and publicists and radio stations). To imagine the Beatles w/o John or any of the members would be ridiculous and a pushbutton issue.
One thing is certain, Mark David Chapman killed one of the most influential songwriter's in popular music.

I hate John with a passion? No more than I hate Bob Dylan, actually. (Clears throat.) I, erm, have to admit, though, that "#9 Dream" ranks highly among my all-time faves. As a mix, btw, I find this slightly absurd.

So Thomas_Mohr, you "hate John with a passion". I suppose if you must hate someone you should, at least, do so with "a passion". Dylan too is on your hate list. You are entitled, probably by some constitution or other, to hate anything you hate. I do feel that to do so is such a waste of "passion". gobi, you neglected to mention that John damn near battered Stu Sutcliffe to death. Oh he was a feisty one, but very talented, nonetheless.I apologise to you nimue429, for using your precious feedback section to rant in this fashion. Please don't tell Merlin, or he'll probably turn me into something that is unable to blather on so.

OMG! The advocates of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are rearing their ugly 'eads again . . . If you'd read properly, you might've realized the phrasing 'with a passion' wasn't mine but Orchid's. And that I actually said, albeit in an ironic fashion, that this, her, statement was indeed incorrect. If at all, I hate John Lennon and Bob Dylan (and Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen and REM and U2 and whatever else may be on my personal hate list - which is called a hate list simply because 'dislike' or 'despise list' would sound pretty damn stupid, wouldn't it?) with only a modicum of passion, i.e. while I certainly think musical and lyrical drivel like 'Imagine' is most definitely inexcusable and thus enough to discredit any artiste, I just don't give a damn about Bob Dylan. He simply plays no part whatsoever in my musical universe. In the eyes of some people, this seems to amount to a regular fault of character. Btw, I'm pretty tired of being bashed by people who get seriously riled up just because you don't share their appreciation of their favorite artist or band - a concept which in itself is rather juvenile, not to say childish.

AOTM is about MIXES!! is AOTM considered a forum? even forums try to stay on topic ...hmm.. wow i'm never posting another mix on here again enabling feedback. since it turned into something that's.. heh.. not even really feedback about the MIX. anwyay, most of the time i only post mixes so the ppl i make them for can see the track listing and possibly it print out. but breeding hate between music fans is not my goal. (it feels like a religious forum in here!!) anyway, perhaps sometimes i am curious as to what other fans of music might think about a simple mix reflecting my observations of music. but here's the thing: if you don't like an artist/genre don't post about it. chances are your opinions are going to be scewed anyway as to whether or not it's a GOOD MIX. ie: when ppl ask me about the new 50 cent, i say i dunno it might be good.. however, i don't know as i am not really much of a fan. nor do i know about HIM, really. WHICH IS ANOTHER THING, how does the personal life of lennon factor into the evaluation of this MIX? irrelevant.

ps. every one is entitled to their opinion. these songs are my opinion. many of you have likes/dislikes about it as well. i realise that. but the rest... yeah, irrelevant.
