Thank You doublefourtime! Recently doublefourtime posted "God Help Us! God Help Us Lose Our Minds"
A wonderful vocal piece was 'linked' and I 'borrowed' it and placed in the #3 position and built from there. I start out with some silliness (well it gets heavy soon enough).
Cut #2 is a Latvian Woman's Choir with voices that cut glass. After doublefourtime's piece, a vocal piece with no words follows at #4. Walking? God? Sex? I dunno, but it's good!
I grew up in the Appalachians and am attracted to the music of the region. # 5, #7, #9, and #11 all come from the "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" Soundtrack. On that same path are two hymns from the 'Sacred Heart' or 'Shape Notes' tradition. (#6 and #13) This is old-timey vocal hymn singing for folks who have no instruments and can't read music. It is intense and (to me) intensly beautiful.
I wander the world with #8, #10, #12 and #14, allowing some percussion... If you have never heard Tibentian throat chants, well, #14 will make you wonder when God'll be here.
Lastly, in this first section, #15 is atonal and without rhythm, but might be recognized by some from the movie "2001 - A Space Odessey". Listening takes some effort, but your patience will be rewarded.
For those who have stuck with me so far, the mix ends with six 'heavenly/lovely' acappela treats.
Again, thanks to doublefourtime for making this mix possible.

Unbelieveable -- I mean that in a good way. Lux Aeterna had a a marked effect upon me as a youngster --I mean that in a good way. I must also thank doublefourtime for introducing me to track 3 -- dreamy and spiritual -- I mean that in a good way. This is a strange and difficult mix -- I mean that in a good way. I'm sure it will reward perseverance -- I mean that most sincerely.

A great mix! I tried something similar last year. I really like Appalachian music, too.

Oh wow! I'm so ashamed that I know so few of these tracks.

So great, plus there's a cappella, and while I haven't heard those particular songs, I do love a bit of a cappella.

The last time I heard Tibetan voice chants was probably when I was nine or something, during either a music or religious education lesson, and I remember being entranced by it.
And I'd love a copy - perhaps an exchange? Though my mixes feel woefully inadequate compared to so many others.

Gosh.
