Comment:

turn off the lights and absolutely freak the fuck out. songs that, by my own approximation, represent pure terror and absolute evil. the aim of course is to incite nightmares. naturally the selected tracks are based purely on my subjective judgement of what is scary and what is not. furthermore, though my humps is an exceedingly scary song, i've determined to exclude songs that frighteningly terrible :)

and for the next week or so, the whole thing is available as a zip file. just paste the proceeding link into your browser to download or just right click + save as. 300mb so it'll take a while. at least 10 minutes on dsl/cable. and if you haven't guessed, this isn't actually a tape. i just couldn't fit 37 songs onto an mp3 playlist so i had to submit it as a tape.

now for a question. you're making a mix of the songs that scare you the most... what do you include? what freaks you the fuck out!?

oh, and enjoy!

This mix continues to be available for download if you're interested. At least until 2/20.

Christina Aguilera. Lots of Christina Aguilera. Just kidding. This does look superb. Who's the dude? If I'm thinking of the right one, I never thought of that Mercury Rev track as scary. Kind of grating though. Looking forward to hearing it in context!

Great concept. The first song I thought of to answer your question was the Psychic TV track you have already included. Chuck D has been known to scare me on occasion, he just sounds so damn menacing. In recent times most of Patrick Wolf's Lycanthropy album is creepy as hell. Oh and that whole death/black metal genre frightens me to death although not in the way they intend, I'm more concerned with the fact that those guys are allowed to vote! I'll give this a spin later, when it gets dark of course.

this IS a mix that needed to be done> For me, life's too short to stay in nightmares, however, so I'll play "Sugar, Sugar reeeaaal loud> And as I've said before, I'm afraid of Brittney Spears (and Christine Ag-Ag-Ag-Ag-Aguilera.

great concept. songs don't normally scare me, but I still remember 15 years ago when I layed on my bed while listening to Diamanda Galßs' live CD at high volume w/ the light out. I don't like to admit it, but I seriously couldn't handle even one song under those circumstances. too creepy. glad you've given her multiple tracks here.
