Tomorrow is Valentines Day as we all know. I'ts also exactly one year since I began polluting this site with my self indulgent meanderings. My first two mixes were pretty dark and I had just come out of a 7 year relationship and was full of the bitterness and angst that goes with that particular territory. A lot has happened in the past 12 months. When you have relied on someone for that amount of time and suddenly its gone, you need to learn to walk again, learn to breathe again on your own and I've managed to do just that. This valentines day I'm a year older and just a little wiser, this time I happen to have someone very special in my life who happens to have her birthday on that very day. They arent all romantic songs, some are predictably soppy but mainly they are just 'our songs'. So this is for her. Happy valentines day and happy birthday!

Is the title from the Songs: Ohia song Lioness? - "I will swim to you/whether you save you me/whether you savage me" -- well, either way, this is great.

Would you like to know a few facts about "A Garota de Ipanema" (The Girl from Ipanema)? (Before you have time to say no...) It is the most popular Brazilian song of all time, and is supposedly played somewhere in the world 5 million times per day. The teenager who walked by on the beach and inspired the creative juices of Tom Jobim and Vinicio de Moraes was Heloisa Pinheiro. She is in her 50s now and a few years ago did a layout for Playboy together with her actress daughter Ticiane.
