Comment:

After listening to some delectable mixes from Nomates and our friend from the east www.jonpoi.org, I decided to have a bash at uploading one of mine. It is a foolish excercise as my rather pedestrian attempts will bear out. I've made compilation tapes and CD's for nigh on 20 years but this is the first time I've even attempted to crossfade the tracks and make it one piece. The transitions therefore are less than seamless, and as I have no clever software to hand i just manually crossfaded the tracks with my media player. I would have loved to add some little soundbites and audio clips but alas Im still trying to figure out how, so I opted to walk before I could run.

For the mix itself I wanted to make something atmospheric, cinematic maybe but that is being way too kind to my achievements. The opening section goes for an ethereal, orchestral feel before stopping of at folk, dallying with latin samba and tango flavours before heading for folk again. I think the music here is all folk in the wider sense so dont expect any block rocking beats (thats assuming anyone even listens) The final segment is unabashed trad Scotttish and Irish ending with the Waterboys song based around the wonderful W.B Yeats poem from which I borrowed the title. Hope someone likes it, if not i'll delete it and let us never speak of it again.

Hey Barry, thanks for the kind words. I've just begun to listen. The opening tracks are beautifully atmospheric. I'd forgotten about Gavin Bryars magnum opus. I swear I used to have this album -- now sadly banished to my vinyl cemetery. I don't recall Tom Waits being on it though -- ah the vagaries of memory.I shall continue my education...It's great that you made it available to us oiks. If you're serious about pursuing the sound montage angle, please email me and I'll pretend I know what I'm talking about and offer you any help you may wish for. Otherwise, just keep on doing what you're doing - it works for me.

Count me in on the coaching, too. I have just completed downloading your epic and am going to have a nice time listening to it while I attempt to score big in my evening online poker tournament. And already you are bringing me luck as I doubled up with a pair of tens before the flop. Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet, indeed.

Okay, here is the deal: Jesus let me down 36:50 into the mix. Finished 301 out of 900 as a four beat me on the river. But the tunes were so enjoyable while the ride lasted. I like this mix. It is very easy going and it was a kick to play poker to the Pogues. Having actually played poker dice with Shane MacGowan at his request before, it brought back really neat memories. Thanks for spurring them on, and I am looking forward to literally hearing more from you. Here are my stars for your first segued collection.

Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand, For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand...I do love a bit of Yeats after a long lunch down the boozer.
