Comment:

It was a period towards the end of the 90s, Britpop was imploding in a series of 2nd rate Jam covers bands, and dance music picked up the slack with something for the indie kids, huge slabs of breakbeat, explosions and sirens, attached to pop music (and "repetitive beats"). Remember the first time you got into a proper club wearing trainers? Listening to the Fatboy Slim CD and you thought it had got stuck, but then the music kept going? Jockey Slut and Sleaze Nation magazines? It only lasted a few years before the ideas ran out, the Playstations playing Wipeout in clubs became naff and were taken away again. But Big Beat (sort of) lives on, the "play anything" ethos inspired the mashup scene, and now the Go! Team are even starting a mini Big Beat revival. It may not have been a period of musical greatness, but the songs here all keep me dancing...
