Comment:

See, It turned out that I really liked my compilation "(Got Dem) Fishin' Blues". (See in my mix list if you wanna) So I wanted to follow up with a similar country-rock / country type of thing. But time passed and I had no 'start' to the mix. Change Gears Here... I grew up in the late sixties / early seventies where dope got you through times of no money better than money got you times of no dope (thank you Freewheelin' Franklin). Albums were expensive. Warner Brothers created their line of 'loss leaders' (Two Bucks Two Discs No Kidding) Sometimes $1 for 1 or $3 for 3. Well, that meant that most of us grew to love MUCH that was first showcased on those many collections because these albums were all we could afford (as an example this is where I first heard Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac!!!!) Well Fleetwood Mac CDs I later got, as most of my dope needs went away and my ready cash flow increased. But I never found this rather obscure John Sebastian track... searched & searched & never found it. Then those crazy animals at Rhino Handmade put out a collection of Sebastian... and... there... it... was!!! This Mixed tape immediately resulted. Starts with country-rock, moseys into singer-songwrites, ends up with old timey country, and closes with strangeness
These Warner Brothers Loss Leaders have never been put together on CD. I wonder???? I wonder if some AOTM crazy folks would want to try to duplicate these 'cause those collections have never been done (hmmmmmm) Maybe as a collaborative effort we could gather all the songs from CD quality source material??? If interested, check out these two links... and let me know. I understand that this would be a long strange trip and a labor of love

WOW! and again with the WOW! Great mix -- well it's got Gillian Welch on it, so that's a given. But WOW! -- Love the loss leaders anecdote and proposed collaboration -- WOW!By the way did I say WOW! yet?

Oh, man. That's neat. And THOSE WB albums are killers. I have Music for Ice Capades Commercials by Van Dyke Parks unless you prefer another starting place.
