Comment:

What I've been listening to last week. A mix of old and new. Still don't get the fuss over the Arctic Monkeys, at least here in the UK anyway. They're good but they are not saviours bearing guitars. Oh if only the Chills had had as much hype heaped upon them in their heyday, but maybe coming from New Zealand and writing sublime pop songs dealing with abusive male partners, as is the case with Male Monster, precludes acres of hyperbolical press. There is a dearth of good new girlie pop so welcome the Pipettes, a little bit Bangles, a little bit Blondie. Boys wielding guitars are all the rage here in the UK, but come on girls, let's hear some ansgt, female style.
This mix will make its debut on a hopefully sun-speckled Pacific Coast Highway in a fortnight.

I was just on me way out when this mix came sliding down the bannister and hit me on the proverbial. Got a bump now. Still, reading the track list indicates that the pain may be worthwhile. I was unaware of the Scrotum Poles, but for that name alone I'm already a fan. For no apparent reason this reminded me of Man From Delmonte, and that's always a good thing. So thanks for that. This is only a suggestion, but if you can manage it, you won't be disappointed. It's this: Try to approach Santa Monica from the north on Highway 1. If youcan time this so that your first glimpse of the bay corresponds to those few moments before dawn, -- oh and I recommend the "Valerie And The Week Of Wonders" track for this -- Yes, if you are able to carry this off, well, there you have it -- you will have created your very own seminal memory. Well it was for me and I don't hold exclusive rights. Enjoy your trip. It would be hard not to.

Looks wonderful, kids!! The Pipettes are excellent and I'm all for more females yielding guitars. I forgot all about your trip to the West Coast. Drop me a line if you make it down our way!

Females "yielding" guitars? That's what happens when you write comments at 6:30 in the morning after only four hours sleep. Anyway, I hope you guys have a wonderful and safe trip. Send me a postcard!
