Comment:

A mix for my sister, because she hasn't had one in ages. and I'm getting rusty. So basically, it's not really got a theme, no techno or folksy jam or anything. here's the listings -
1. Siobhan got me into B&S. This is my favourite off their new album, I don't know if she's heard it or not, but it's a taster if not.
2. The Promise Ring pre-empted emo. this is both hilarious and wonderful. Also just a fantastic song.
3. I thought this would be the best pick off Mr. beast as it has the best story behind it. Basically Stuart Braithwaite was walking down the street thinking how crap Glasgow's public transport system is, so he thought about a massive rollercoaster transit system called the Glasgow Mega Snake. Then he imagined that there was a creature called that that lived in Glasgow's river Clyde. This song reflects all that. apparently.
4. Only put MACHINA, which Siobhan bought me, on my iTunes the other day, this song stood out, so it's getting included.
5. Ditto with TMBG, except I bought this album, and it's just a stupid dance song. but really really catchy.
6. The weddos just rule. I'm off to see them in June, and I got out the Hit Parade recently. It's all good.
7. One of our bandmates in the children's hour (shameless plug *www.myspace.com/thechildrenshour*) loves the mystery jets. I think they would be our Dad's favourite band ever.
8. Tom Vek is mad. I'm sure siobhan appreciates this. also he seems to be a one-man version of the Killers. So taking out Hipster factor of a hipster band is good.
9. Old school stuff here. it's basically The Flaming Lips (who siobhan is ambivalent to, or kind of only starting to like... i think) doing their best placebo impersonation.
10. There's 16 of them. Arcade Fire? meh, who they?
11. It's a bunch of kids covering Franz Ferdinand, but it sounds like a rrrrrriot girrrrrl version of it. absolutely great.
12. I figure siobhan will like this one. she got me into bjork too. Joanna newsome is the harp playing bjork clone.
13. A band I got myself into one day, after hearing they were "REM meets Nirvana". i still regret that description, but definitely one of the Hollis family shared loves, and a great acoustic version.
14. It's stupidly cockney. siobhan got me into blur, herself being the 43rd biggest blur fan ever. this song is everything about the great escape encapsulated into 3 1/2 minutes. and it's just a big knees up jam.
15. siobhan and i met jimmy eat world one day, and we got an "abercromby and fitch" perfume tester card signed by them. this song basically represents that previous statement. it also wants to be the cure, in more than just title.
16. Aberfeldy. And an Aberfeldy B-Side. how fucking twee, eh?
17. The biggest song ever. Fact.

Yay! I love the weddos, I also love calling them the weddos. I had totally forgotten about getting the abercrombie & fitch card signed by jimmy eat world, now I look back on it I remember how frightened the front man dude looked when he tried to get out of the studio and all the emo kids were like "LOVE ME BECAUSE A GIRL SHATTERED MY HEART TODAY". I am also very much looking forward to hearing the biggest song ever. You have me pegged here man, pegged. Joanna Newsom is mad but great, Broken Social Scene are numerous but great, and I can now tick the "flaming lips fan" yes box. Ta!
