More Cowbells!
Comment:
I have been following the mixes by Elisa Rocket (the last being "Musical Toybox: Final Bonanza") which featured a few 'cowbell' cuts. I have also noticed with great pleasure a series of mixes featuring the instruments of rock... guitar, sax, bass, drums, and, of course Pop Kulcher's two disc mangnum/ode to the piano: "Billy Joel and Elton John Must Die"Fast forward... Saturday Night Live... the now iconic (in a popular culture sense at least)) skit featuring Christopher Walken entitled "More Cowbell" (for my friends who do not get American TV (you lucky people) just google the phrase MORE COWBELL and all will be revealed.)
But there was no starting point... till I heard a dance tune on XMRadio, "Cowbell" by Dirty Gringos. Great tune and samples from the above-mentioned skit to boot. Took considerable time to track it down, but as you can see... down it was tracked, and it leads us off... Friends, this mix is just the tippest of a BIG giant iceberg. I believe it is your duty and responsibility to collect songs that feature the musical genius that is the cowbell, mix them, and post them here! This mix is for trade for other cowbell mixes!
Is this important? You bet it is! Without the cowbell cows would be lost. We would not have milk for our cereal, cream for our chocolate, CHEESE FOR OUR PIZZA! Without the cowbell, many rock wannabees would have no instrument to play! Without the cowbell, far too many would not be able to find and keep the beat. And without the beat, ALL of Rock & Roll is in danger; a danger so profound that - like with global warming - life as we know it might cease.
Make & post those Cowbell Mixes! Only you can save the world.

Of course, this concept has been taken to its logical extreme at this sight http://www.geekspeakweekly.com/cowbell/ "The Cowbell Project" where you can do a search on virtually all cowbell-heavy tunes. You can also view the SNL skit here.
I never knew this existed!!! WOW. OK, no excuses, make your Cowbell Mix!!!

Feedback:
Thanks for the tip!
LOVE it and your notes had me laughing my ass off over morning coffee.
Okay. I am calmer now. Off the ground and have cleared the coffee from the inside of my nose and off the front of my shirt...As I read the notes, then the music, I noticed The Beatles, but not Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey, which is noted for attracting cows (like me!!)... and no Mountain beating holy hell out of the chosen instrument on Mississippi Queen... I may well be back, should The Second Full Moon allow... sigh....

fan-freaking-tastic.
Funny -- I've been thinking on and off for some time about doing a cowbell mix, but unlike my sax & piano mixes (thanks for the nod!), it's much tougher to spin through your collection and pick out songs emphasizing cowbells. So I was too lazy. Fortunately, you were not. This looks great.
You've pulled this off nicely! Like the closing trio especially. Moooo!
Great little mix Artie. Like the look of it a lot.
I'm a little ashamed to say that I had never really thought about the importance of cow-bells . . . . . . . . so I took a trip to http://www.geekspeakweekly.com/cowbell/ "The Cowbell Project" as Mark suggested.I am amazed! I too have snotted my keyboard laughing. Absolutely classic mix. Good job.
This is really great.
