Comment:
Yet another labor of love and looooong time project...No-WaveNotes as per WikipediaNo Wave was a short-lived but influential offshoot of punk rock centered in New York City during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The term No Wave was partly a satiric wordplay rejecting the commercial elements of the then-popular New Wave genre, and also a declaration of the music's experimental nature: No Wave music belonged to no fixed style or genre. In many ways, No Wave is not a clearly definable genre. There is, for example, no fixed harmony as in most rock music and blues music. There are some elements common to many No Wave performers, including abrasive atonal sounds, strong emphasis on repetitive rhythm, and more emphasis on mood and texture than on conventional melody. Lyrics often focused on nihilism and confrontation or were puzzlingly abstract. As you will note, a number of artist's represented are not "true" no-wavers, but rather post-punk bands which musical reach broke into similar territories. Similarly, post-disco groups, such as Konk, Liquid Liquid, E.S.G., Arthur Russell, et al, have been included (and have in many cases been grouped with no-wave.) Lastly, I've also included a few groups who drew inspiration from No-Wave, such as Big Black & Cop Shoot Cop.Thanks to LoFi for consultation. And, in conclusion, please allow me to leave you with the words of Lydia Lunch who said, "the dishes are cracked/the forks are plastic/the food is in cellophane/I puke elastic". Indeed.Editor's Note: DNA accidently ommitted when entering mix listing. A criminal offense when putting together any No-Wave Mix. Thanks for the catch. Luckily, I haven't "pressed" any of these, as of yet.
Feedback:
Wow,
I only know the Lounge Lizards and Lydia Lunch on here but an impressive labor of love indeed. Nicely done.

Just about every single song here is heart-stoppingly great. Although I wish you'd have included a DNA track (my opinion, of course, and not my mix), this is tremendous. Great idea and great execution.
Excellent! Nice to see some Alice Donut, too.
Points to Rob Conroy for pointing out a GLARING ommission. This goes to show you, one must always proof your track lists prior to submission. ;)
Wonderful stuff. Great covers as usual, and a comprehensive guide to a great "genre".
Rip, Rig & Panic probably would fit in here nicely, too.
Alice f**king Donut?! Count me in Mr Gnome. Looks great from top to toe.
Good information, thanks.
A grand place to start for those who have NO idea what it means. Great mix!
Yep, freakin' awesome. Everything looks in order. Great work.
Great mix - I'd really like to hear it - any chance we could do an exchange? Cheers.
Cept for that killer KJ track I have absolutely nothing else from this mix??? Send me to the corner with a dunces hat on me barnet!
FANTASIC!!!!!
Mmm mmm mmm, amazing and on a tape. Genius.
I looked for Lurie and found him, then I tried to spot his pal Mr. Jarmusch...still encyclopedic and exhaustive of the genre-eschewing camp. Bravo and rounds of applause 'Gnome!
Rhys, Glenn, ESG... amazing. Looks comprehensive and I would love to hear it.
Epic, my friend. Mojo would give this five stars, and so would I (as did three other AOTMers). So who's gonna tell Planet of the Tapes this is a double CD mix?
I'd have lunch with Lydia any day, with the Bush Tetras for dessert - this looks scrumptious A to Z & beyond -
Very cool. Very NYC.
Splendid. Love the Bush Tetras through Essential Logic run especially.
splendid stuff in deed...I remember wading through this stuff when I did the Rip It Up mixes.
Damn, I'm behind on my Gnome Music Studies! Just getting around to this in the last few days and May is almost up. Fantastic as usual and really up my alley with tons I've been meaning to explore.
