Ward 22
Comment:
Autumn 1997 my sister Olivia one year and one week my senior went into hospital for tests and is diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. A bitter struggle ensued from which she emerged victorious thanks to my bone marrow in March 98. 50 days later she relapsed and was diagnosed as terminally ill. She was offered treatment to prolong her life but she was tired and advised the consultant she wanted to go home and die with her family. The consultant who deals with these situations on a day to day basis cried like a baby when she left that hospital. Our local priest who visited every day kept speaking about how inspired he was by her. She died on this day 8 years ago and I miss her as a friend and a sister. The aforementioned priest subsequently left the priesthood as he could not reconcile gods will with the taking of her life, hes now married with his own children. My little girl who is called Olivia too will be four on the 4th July. Ive made this mix for her. They are all songs that her Aunt liked and I in some cases begrudgingly sang along. This is probably uncomfortable for most people reading and I guess the internet isnt really the right place to type these things... But it makes me feel a little bit better. Cheers guys.Feedback:
The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace. (Psalm 29)
I like to believe that the "internet" is peopled by human beings; most of whom are inherently decent. Therefore, in my naivetT, I feel it is an appropriate place in which to display our humanity. Thank you, Barry. You have chosen to share Olivia's tale and its effect on those who knew and loved her; and given us insight through the musical selections. This is a fine thing to do. You say it makes you feel better - well it has the same effect on me. All who seek answers may pause and take note - it doesn't matter whether there is some "divine" purpose to these hateful occurrences. Olivia lived, was known and loved. She is still loved and remembered. Is there a better legacy? I think not. So again I say, thank you, Barry.
A heartbreaking story. Track 18 has always and will continue to make me cry for my own selfish personal reasons. Reasons which pale into insignificance.. I don't know what else to say. I'm thinking of you on this day.
Beautiful and indeed heartbreaking. So many of those tracks evoke feelings in me, too...(not only the Longpigs-like sammyg, but the Wonderstuff, Mission,Lloyd Cole, Crowded House, and that great finale.) Blessings.
Best wishes to you, Barry. Liz and I send a prayer.A beautiful and touching testiment.
Powerful-peace be with you.
wow. very heartfelt.
A wonderful tribute and beautiful dedication.
Lovely.
Lovely mix. That's a sad story, for sure...
music is one of the best ways to conjure memories of people who are gone. this is real nice.
