(31) Little Richard -- The Girl Can't Help It
--------

Why even try to deny it, I'm a sucker for a snarky pun. So when the title of this mix came to me -- (out of nowhere, drifting into my mind like a seed-pod from outer space), I just KNEW I had to do something with it.
My first misguided thought was that the title called for a collection of misogynist songs like e.g. "Under My Thumb", but then I quickly realized what an unpleasant listening experience that would be, so I went instead for a theme of voyeur/bragging tunes in which the singers boast about what redblooded girl-crazy skirtchasers they are. But then I couldn't just leave well enough alone, so there are some counter-critiques of "girlhood" here from the Slits & Elvis Costello, & then a few that maybe veer off theme a little bit but are just so catchy! (yes, that one . . . )

Listening to a collection like this, you just have to wonder who these songs are really directed to -- I've never tried it, but I can't imagine that "I'm a girl watcher" is a line that goes over real well with the girls themselves. So is it just boasting to your buddies aboutwhat a flaming hetero he-man you are? Or are these songs mostly for the Lonely Guy to play in his head & reassure himself that though he doesn't have any one particular girl, that's just cause he can't make up his mind?

ah well - no point in over-thinking pop music - anyway the upshot is that these are a bunch of very poppy bouncy celebrations of "pretty girls everywhere" & come to think of it that IS something to celebrate, why not?

P.S. If anyone out there has a good clean recording of Roy Loney's "San Francisco Girls" I would gladly trade this whole mix for it, I love that song but I only have it on an old fuzzy warbly tape, so couldn't include it here where it would have been perfect next to the Beach Boys . . .

Yah, baby! Does this mix make you randy? Does it?Reading through the track-listing of your mixes always results in Perma-Grin.

A killer mix on a fascinating topic. Way to go joey.It seems there are beaucoup songs called "Girls Girls Girls." You've got 3 of them and Jay-Z and Motley Crne each did one too.

This AOTM is some amazing community resource. No sooner do I put out a hint that "San Francisco Girls" could make this a better mix than Nest of Vipers a.k.a. the girl who's got it, gives me just what I need -- & then Barrydali a.k.a. the boy who's hard to beat, offers me his own Roy Loney track.
So, future versions of this mix will be suitably enhanced by these mixers' generosity, & the world will be a better place. Thanks, & yay!

Fantastic mix! I like your liner notes too - including the Slits and Costello tracks was definitely a good choice.

I have to suggest parachute woman.oh,but thats not a girl song or a lady.Oh,forgive me that was just to much bad television, and a stupid idea. Why are some men alone?espeically the drunks and heavy hearted ones?Do you think its in their nature along with being stubborn?I realize talk is so cheap,in my Opion...Nurture and poor writing skills could maybe be the cause of a lowdown loss of self esteem...Thats the reason this outsided booger bachelor is making this cheap self-defining contribution to this THEME.I don't see why i can't get this mix...I mean really understand it,even trade for it! WALK around my community with the ole headphones stapped on tight enough not to hear anything but snap, crackle & POP inbetween my ears and soul.Although,in the community where I live(not in my head) it maybe a sin to act as all human beings used to before the bike and the car.Walking around is not sitting down that is..Oh yeah,i wanted to discuss the importance of sharring, celebrating appreciating the prince of peace year 'round.Oh, don't get me wrong or misunderstood birthdays for special ones, like the "savior" of his chosen and"true belivers" can't seem unusal. To get a "christmas card in june".I just can't find that act passive-aggressive. Only a peace offering, in the sharing of peace and goodwill towards men in the seasons of growing gardens, cookouts and swingin' at the swinnin'hole.I enjoy thinking about christmas and sharing this time of year.Maybe,if jesus was alive he could bless the lowest of men, take pity and open the heart of the shamed.Maybe...I would like to think so.But,thats just a thought a dream.I'm not ramblin or a christian ,I'm respecting this the best i can. In the small part of the world that i control, and make a best of.Thanks joey for making this...I'm sincere. This is a great topic for discussion. Thanks for bringing it up and maybe i can learn something from it.Or maybe we could just trade.

Ohh boy, this is my kinda mix (the concept not the specific topic, you understand.)

interesting that the title came first & then the mix. That's often the way I do these things eg "Mix of The Art". Encouraging to know I'm not the only one who's train runs on warped tracks!
