Comment:

Phew. This is one monolithic mo-fo, indirectly inspired by Orchid's old "Every Line of Silver is a Cloud" mix from awhile back--its absolutely mind-boggling scope and eclecticism has stayed in the back of my head ever since I received it all those months ago. This was a real blast to compile and, IMHO, anyway, is even more fun to listen to than it was to put together. (I think I may have to do these double-disc monsters more often.) I've got tons of AotM thanks to toss off for this one (the most for a long time). The following people hipped me to the following tracks: SwankQueen (Steroid Maximus, Camille Yarbrough and Boubacar TraorT) and The New Leif Allstars (Derek Bailey - John Zorn - William Parker). The following people provided me with the following tracks: sammyg123 (Crispin Hellion Glover) and Nick Falivena & blasikin (Big Mama Thornton). Lastly, Curtis Burns reminded me how much I love that Chris Bell song when he included it on a recent, classic mix. Title from Mr. Neil. And no, I'm not a closet Donna Summer, Faith No More, Suzanne Vega, Depeche Mode, or even Simon & Garfunkel fan, but I do dig the song from each that I included here and think that they complement the mix nicely. I will, however, begrudgingly admit that I've got a sentimental fondness (leftover from early childhood) for the original "Jesus Christ Superstar" soundtrack... go figure. heh

Damn! It's tough to compile something to match the scope of an Orchid mix, but this hits it. Some faves from Sleater-Kinney, Monkees & the JCSS soundtrack. Even picks that I'd stay up late debating you on look good here.

I never thought I'd like a "double-disc monster" (tm) EVEN more then a "for the hell of it (tm)!! All over the place in the very best way.

OK, man. So, this is EXACTLY the kind of mix I've been trying to cook up (from an eclectic standpoint) for going on 3 months now. You've set the bar pretty high, my friend. The stretch from Crispin->Faith No More on disc 1 and hell, pretty much ALL of disc 2 is beyond amazing. All I know is that I think I need this next time we trade. (in whatever format that may be) Oh yeah, MOTW candidate, for sure.

looks like something I could really sink my ears into. it's tricky to pull off the wildly eclectic mix, though I sure enjoy the tryin'. this one does indeed look like it was fun to put together.

How great is this! It DOES look like it was a lot of fun to put together - and surely that's half of what this mix-making lark should be about. Love the John Prine, Sleater-Kinney, Modey Lemon and - yes - Donna Summer. (And there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a closet Depeche Mode fan! :) ) A well deserved MOTW.
