Comment:

Another blow in the never-ending struggle against negativity . . .

I have a weakness for simple-minded lyrics, & they don't come any more simple-minded than some of these.
In most, the entire chorus is "yeah" or "oh yeah",
& others are semi-instrumentals with no real lyrics except for the band shouting "yeah" as needed.
You might laugh at Tommy "Madman" Jones getting vocal credits on a song where the entire vocal is the word "Yeah!", but
then wait 'til you hear what he does with it . . . & you'll laugh even harder.

Now, I realize this track list might look monotonous, but, in reality,
no two of these "yeah" tunes are the same.
Musicians will say "yes" to almost anything, apparently.

(Fab Four Fanatics will notice that I've left out the most famous "yeah, yeah, yeah" song of all time,
but it's indirectly represented here in a demented Spanglish cover version by Los Xochimilcos.)

Thanks to fwak for that one,
thanks to Mohr for Georgie Fame,
& thanks to
Sean "Yeah Baby" Lally
for the Kaisers.
,
.

I'm positive I've missed some other great "yeah" songs - I was looking around for Mingus "Oh Yeah" but couldn't find it anywhere at hand -
so, suggestions are welcome, but remember we're looking for songs where most of the lyrics,
or at least the chorus, is "yeah" or "yes", not just something with a "yeah" in the title.
For a sample of what we're talking about here, check out (
until Aug 1) the great New Orleans musician Paul Gayten's
yeah yeah yeah!

. . . and yes I said yes I will Yes

as delicious as a box of peanutty candy bars. what a set! my dad had the 7" of a Dave Bartholomew song from the early '60s called "Yeah Yeah" that would fit right in here.

Hell Yeah! A very agreeable mix. Will there be a "nah" mix to balance this one out? Oh I forgot, musicians can't say no. The Pogues and the Wedding Present both do songs called "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah."

I absolutely love Los Xochimilcos take on the Beatles - their Spanglish lends an urgency to the... Oh never mind!

Fantastic mix. Gosh! It must have taken you some time to come up with enough songs for a whole mix making this selection all the more impressive. :-)

Hell Yeah!.... just compared this with Dead Man's mix of the same name http://www.artofthemix.org/findamix/GetContents.asp?strMixid=103448 and there were only 3 repeats, Flaming Lips, DEVO and the Minders.... so at least 53 unique Yeah, yeahs!

If I were to immortalize a word in popular music with a theme mix, it'd be this one. Nice job.

To paraphrase the great Sire samplers of the late 80's/early 90's: just say yeah! Nice work.
