Comment:

this mix is pretty important, in a way. feeling like the birthday mix i made for my best friend was a botched job (though she begged to differ), i promised to compensate for it by making a monthly mix for her starting immediately - partly because of my own perfectionism towards mixes, but mostly because i love her to death & she deserves it. this is the first volume in what i hope becomes a fruitful series.

my objective with this series is for each mix to double as both a commentary on our friendship (with songs that hold special meaning to us, whether it's a song that reminds me of her, or a song that she likes, or a song that lyrically describes our relationship, etc.), & a "what i've been listening to lately" view into my recent tastes. this is actually the second version of this particular entry, as i wasn't too happy with the first draft - you'd be amazed with how constructive adding one track & substituting two can be. it seems to have a sonic theme, equal parts pop-oriented summertime love & folk-oriented somber mourning with regret. overall, i'm pretty happy with it. i hope she is too.
