74
Comment:
Here's some songs from 1974. I always meant to do one of these to mark the year I was born and finally finished it tonight just in time to post it as my 74th mix on the good ship AotM. Sadly I didnt have the foresight to make it 74 minutes long which would have been a full house but I'm too lazy to cut it now. Download coming soon stay tuned... (EDIT: LINK NOW ADDED)Feedback:
oh wow this is excellent, far too many highlights to name - but you sure did a great job using the absolute cream of 1974's crop. i love how it just came in time for your 74th mix too. wonderful job.
Barry, you're a genius. I'm with Anthony. Great timing! If you hadn't already guessed, although I'm sure you had, I was born in '76.. I must do the same sometime..
Apparently a great year for music!! Great picks and I believe I had a yellow version of that bike!
killer closer.
Nice! 1,7,16,18 & 21 are my favorites.
Barry this looks terrific. I dig the Meters and Toots. Still remember when Elis Regina died - that was sad.
Wow. This is brilliant, just one highlight after another. Hell of a year all around
yes , a really great year for music
Very nice, much better music than the year I was born (see my 50 for 50, Hell No mix)
This looks amazing!
excellent, excellent! I loved that Sparks album.
Great Raspberries song too.
Great Raspberries song too.
Every one of these is a classic, my friend. Fantastic. I'm not sure that 1971 would produce such results (if I were to do the year of my birth), but I've thought about it...
jobim!! the rest of this looks nice as well... and what i don't know, well maybe i should find out.
It's interesting how much connection I have to the stuff from this period as well (DOB 5/26/75). What do you think that's about? Great picks every one uhvem. Stylin' wheels too, man!
Some really cool stuff that wasn't playing on my transistor radio in 1974. The one exception would be the Raspberries. Love the penis-killer bike too. Check out this similar ride on Slack A Go-Go's mix ---www.artofthemix.org/FindAMix/getcontents.asp?strMixID=43476
Boss bike/mix. I especially dig that you were able to feature Brazilia & The Residents. The excellent spectrum of sound here should do much to demonstrate that this period wasn't all prog & disco waiting for punk to happen.
A sweet ride.
THis is superb. And though I know & love most of the choices here, (betrays age) I don't remember actually listening to them at the time. More worryingly I can't remember too much about WHAT I was listening to that year (betrays age further)...
Fantastic! Looking forward to hearing it - I know the opener is killer, and that Sparks/Raspberries section is *very* nice. Also like your double-whammy-74 idea for the mix!
Lots of great picks here.
Count me with Moe. A lot here that wasn't playing on any station I was listening to-obsessively, back in '74. Great year and a great mix of styles.
Really awesome mix, Barry. 74 was an amazing year in music, unlike mine - 1982. Mediocre, but not amazing. I like how you incorporated a few styles in this.
I'm with lo-fi jr. The mid-seventies have gotten a bad reputation because of the excesses of some the artists of the era, but your mix demonstrates that a lot of great music came from various corners. Super cool bike, too!
Superb. I'm still enjoying your How to grow a woman from the ground. It's my late late night mix, if you must know.
Shuggie! 32?!?
