Comment:
Another single-artist project that's been in the works for awhile, again aided and abetted by the venerable lo-fi jr. This mix focuses completely on the period where the term "Alice Cooper" meant a *band* and not an individual (back when Vincent Furnier was the vocalist for the ensemble). Upon review of their catalog from that period, there was a surprising amount of quality material (I think Alice's early days are seriously underrated by most rock snobs that I know) and some cuts had to be made (which left only two songs on the mix from my second-favorite album, Pretties for You), notably "Second Coming," "Raped and Freezin'," "Fields of Regret," "No More Mr. Nice Guy," "Swing Low, Sweet Cheerio," "Return of the Spiders," "Laughing at Me," "Apple Bush," and "Teenage Lament '74."Feedback:
looks pretty nice. even if I miss some old favs from my youth here
I know nothing from this period, I think I might need this.
Hmmm... this is the only stuff that mattered for me. I stopped paying attention to AC when the band broke up. These are the classics. Nice one.
Only know a couple here but then I had him/them cast as a bit of a novelty act due in no small part I'm sure to my own rampant rock snobbery. Looks like you've done your homework as usual though.
Always loved Under My Wheels and of course School's Out.
Like groove366 says . . . . funnily enough I was watching an old episode of the Old Grey Whistle Test yesterday which featured the classic AC line up. Amazing stuff.
underrated for sure, rob - i grew up on alice cooper, so i must say there's much to like on this. "nobody likes me" has always been one my favorite songs of the era. this looks great, it's hard to imagine a better overview being done of these years.
You mean Alice was not his real name? ;-) School's Out is a great one.
Oh man I know sweet eff all about this - however past experience says AOTMers know what they're talking about, so I'll have to check it out. I have been to his restaurant in Phoenix, though!
Good picks, I've been listening to Alice Cooper a lot lately!
Any man that is able to sing -- bloody well, I might add -- and wield a rapier at the same time, deserves the Rob Conroy treatment. Nicely chosen and well ordered.I realise that sounds a bit bored-teacher like, but I mean it in the best possible way. If you could just see my big, friendly, cheesy grin, you'd know that.
Looks like an instant classic to me.
Alice Cooper's '77 Lace & Whiskey tour (never saw the original band, unfortunately) was my first concert. I've forgotten how many times I've seen him since then. Sure, the records from that period on have been consistantly terrible, but the shows were always a blast. Can't argue with anything here, except I'd have a hard time not using most of Easy Action and Killers on my own mix. Glad I could help on this one.
Oh yeah - Love it to Death, Killer, and Schools Out are all great. The decline, imo, began with Billion Dollar Babies. I kind of liked the Big Apple Dreaming on the Muscle of Love lp.
