Sitting on the FENCE
Comment:
Ive been meaning to do this for a while now and I finally got my act together today. In a tiny fishing village on the Scottish coast there lives a man called Kenny Anderson aka King Creosote who founded a little record label called Fence to release his friends, brothers, sisters and his own records. This compilation concentrates on the mini scene that the label gave birth to rather than with the Fence catalogue itself. A few artists here have not recorded for Fence but are involved at live shows and share the D.I.Y ethic that gives these artists their vibrancy. This article is a great insight into the life of the Fence Collective and describes it much better than I could. This is a continuous mix of just over 64 minutes of sometimes rough, sometimes lush folk, pop and understated electronica. Edit - Thanks Valis for giving the weekly honours to this modest effort and thanks to everyone else for taking the time to listen. Ive refreshed the link should anyone else want to listen. Enjoy...Feedback:
The first Lone Pigeon album is one of my favorite of all time . . . it just reminds me so much of the Beatles White Album . . . . what a great concept mix. Excellent.
I adore King Creosote, Barry this is the proverbial bollox. Please, please burn me a copy.
I only know The Beta Band so call me ignorant.
I like this a lot
I need to give this a listen before I comment officially, as I know nothing here...
Yes, please!!! This looks like a wonderful collection (though I know sooo little!), but not for long....
This is brilliant, Barry! And I'm really impressed at your resources because it's not always easy to come by this stuff. Really looking forward to hearing this and love the Beta Band and JY & the Athletes choices especially. Well done.
Incidentally, just looking at the picture...if I'm not mistaken, that pub looks a lot like Aikman's (best beer & live music in St Andrews) - sadly never saw any of the FC while I was there although I know they did play around the town 'cause Anstruther is fairly nearby. My boyfriend used to live right above the place though so you never actually had to go in to hear any live stuff! :)

Wow, I know absolutely nothing here... but I think this "scene" is right up my alley. Thanks for the tunes...
Know very little here mate. But I know that track 6 is one of the finest songs of the last 10 years. Loading this to my I-pod as I type. Will listen to and from work tomorrow....
Well I know the illustrious Royal Creosote, and the Beta Band; the rest of the fencer collective is a mystery. But I will take Mr. Dali's word for it any day.
Well, I;m intrigued!
"Let's have a disco..." You've made a convert here Barry. A wonderful mix of splendid music.
Unsure of anything here except the Betas and JY & Athletes, but it *looks* interesting! Education continues.
Quite familiar with a lot of this, and your mix looks thoroughly gorgeous. I shall download now and listen on the way to work tomorrow!
Just finished listening to this Barry and wanted to let you know that I think it's beautifully put together. Well done again!
I've just finished listenig to it too & all I can say is I have to agree with Siobhan.
This mix is great; seamless mixes - Thanks!
definitely an interesting lookin' mix here...all i know sadly is lone pidgeon...I'm glad to see Siobhan gave you an approving nod.
A most admirable undertaking, Barry. You may now add philanthropy to your burgeoning plus column. I will click and expand the proverbials.Incidentally, I loved your "Brit-Boy Rock" reference in your comment on my recent mix -- laughed out loud and made disturbing pig-like noises. It was foolish of me to think I might sneak James Blunt past your eagle gaze. I know I'm always saying this, but I believe, in your case, it's always warranted, so I'll say it again -- thank you, Barry.
Standing Ovation. Well Deserved MoTW!!!!!!!!
Congrats! Loved this one: educational and a great listen: what more could a gal ask for?
Delighted this was made MOTW Barry. That valis, certainly knows a good 'un when he sees/hears one...
saved this one a few days ago, finally able to listen while working today. and whaddayaknow! it's been made Mix of the Week! I've got a ridiculous amount of favorites; tracks 2 & 7 are so beautiful. also loved Lone Pigeon, Amino People, Gummi Bako & Daydream Daisy, Northern Alliance, PuMaJaW... and the whole office stood still when the Beta Band began to play.
Congrats mon ami, well deserved it was too.
I'm such a pickle head, let me know what i can upload as thanks if you ever decide to re-you-send-it.
Ah I missed this one! Re-up, re-up! Looks freakin' great.
Very many congratulations mate!
Congrats!!
Just got around to listening to this. It's beautiful stuff, and completely unknown to me before now. Thanks!
