Comment:

I mixed this on August 31, 2006 for my friend Molly. I originally intended to make this primarily a folk mix, but somewhere along the line I dropped most of the folk and replaced it with alt-country, acoustic rock/pop and straight-up guitar-driven indie-rock. Still, I really like the direction it took. This mix starts out very slow and meanders through a series of depressing songs about "life gone wrong" before taking an upturn around track 11. Track 12 is the "pivot song" where everything turns, and the rest of the mix, while occasionally slow, is ultimately elevated by its triumphant and celebratory tone. It goes out on a hopeful note. The cover and inside artwork was hand-drawn based on a photo I took of a North Hollywood traffic signal and a picture an ex-girlfriend took of me on a rock summit in Utah. The title of the mix is from This Year by The Mountain Goats. I burned 5 copies of the mix total.

great looking mix, officer. but I think you need to scan and post your hand-drawn image of a North Hollywood traffic signal artwork. I bet it's pretty.

I admire the thought invested here. I too would like to see the artwork you speak of. A most enjoyable looking collection. I will seek further enlightenment.

Thanks for the comments. I keep meaning to scan my covers for upload... but so far haven't found the time. I fully intend to do it someday, which is why I always mention it in my mix description:)
