Country Rock: An Idiosyncratic History
Page 2/12

There are 12 discs in this collection:
Volumes 1, 2 and 3 contain music that represents `early' country rock, or music from groups farther outside the mainstream.
Volumes 4, 5 and 6 are songs and groups from the `heyday' of country rock, the high point of the genres commercial success.
Volume 7 expands country rock into a selection of Southern rock
Volume 8 takes country rock into the beginnings of the Texas Outlaw movement
Volumes 9, 10 and 11 are nothing more than `overflow'; great music that I did not want to lose and that I consider fine selections of country rock.
Volume 12 looks at one song, Lowell George's "Willin'" (or "I'm Willin'") from as many perspectives as possible, with room for one special `closer',

This organization is somewhat fluid. My first goal is to have each disc a `tasty listen' on its own. Other than the above broad groupings (and I broke my own rules at times) I did not try to present the music specifically by chronological order, by group, or by subgenre. These compilations are `broad' rather than `deep'. I have tried to gather material from many sources and have avoided having more than two or three examples (well there ARE exceptions) from any single artist.

Often the songs are cross-faded into each other. I use this technique whenever I believe it might improve the transition between cuts, though I concede that this is certainly a rebutttable presumption.

Lastly, every song on these 12 CDs are available on compact disc. I know because all songs on these discs come from my CD collection. If you discover a new friend or rediscover an old favorite here, I hope that you support these artists by buying a few CDs for yourself.

I see things moving along nicely. This "cool desert skies" section is indeed very cool. Larry Daniels & The Buckshots -- who'd a thunk it? I cain't set a spell though, must hurry to Volume 3...
