Comment:

i previously stated that my last mix was kind of a precursor/outtakes compilation to this one, & i'm not sure if it's all too blatant to anybody but myself, but the evidence is there for those who care to look. this ended up - subconsciously - as a sort of bluesy, folkish, country-tinged kind of mix; although not enough to merit a genre exercise, as there are several songs which obstreperously break from the mold & venture into disparate territory. the REM, stone roses & the beulah closer (which i admit is there for plain ol' campy fun, but i can't help it - it makes a damn cute & memorable swan song) most notably break from the incidental theme, though i find that the velvet underground track surprisingly meshes well with the rest.

i normally don't reveal omissions (as most mixes start out with around 30 songs before being trimmed down to usually 12-15), as i feel they detract from the final draft, but i think the exclusions here really add some detail to the final product. i was going nuts rearranging & reordering the tracklisting before i realized that "vultures" by john mayer, "time has told me" by nick drake, & "pale green stars" by everclear not only added up to be merely tedious & extraneous filler, but they didn't even flow well with the other songs. as soon as i took those out, the mix took on its current form almost instinctively by itself; by stripping the mix down to its bare essentials, & making it both brief & concise (it's a mere 49 minutes in length), but also focused, i think this turns into a strong listen. i do, however, feel the urge to once again refer any john mayer skeptics to check into his new album, continuum; & those who do not wish to wade through the entire album are advised to at least check into "gravity" & "vultures" for a bit of mind-altering.

at any rate, this is the fourth installment in what i personally believe to be a consistent & continuously unfolding series. so until next month...

I love tracks 1, 3-4, 7-9, and 11, and I like track 10 well enough.

Such a strong collection. I love the opener and the Wilco track. Northern Sky I believe is as close to perfection there can possibly be. Wonderful closing three as well, any track off AFTP would be worthy of inclusion...

i really dig this a lot. 'specially that velvet underground track. we do seem to have overlapping tastes, and as far as john mayer is concerned...i tend to heartily agree with you. well done.
