Comment:
Translation: Halloween 2006: The Sounds of Italian Horror.+ Bava, Argento, Fulci...
+ Suspiria, Zombi, Bay of Blood, The Beyond...
+ Cannibals, Blood, Gore, Horrible Dialogue...
= Stellar, Unusual, Unique Soundtracks...This year's Halloween Themed Entry culls 28 tracks of the most witch-conjured, vibrant-blood-dripping, eyeball-assaultive, cannibal-chompingest tunes this side of the boot. With artists like Morricone, Ortalani, Frizzi, Nicolai and genre-faves Goblin, this music is varied, non-cliche and effective. My hope is to bring to you (what I hope is) a slightly different take on the Quintessential Halloween Soundtrack. For entertainment purposes, here's a little run-down of the genre:(Courtesy: Greenecine.com)Italian Cult Horror1.) In Italian horror films, plots tend not to move from Point A to Point B in reassuring, M. Night Shyamalan-fashion (nor are they tied up with a coda that answers all questions about what came before). Style, passion and emotion take precedence over logic and realism.2.) Bad dubbing is a fact of life. Yeah, it's distracting and can add unintentional humor to even the grimmest of scenes. But, if you're going to watch a lot of Italian horror, you have to get used to it.3.) Italian horror films are incredibly gory and can be mean-spirited. Violence against women is de riguer; sweet little kids are frequently brutally killed (or are themselves brutal killers). Unlike cautiously tasteful American filmmakers, Italians are absolutely not afraid to go over-the-top with dramatic effects; decaying body parts, copious amounts of maggots, spurting arteries and faces smashed through mirrors and windows are common motifs.I know! Yum, yum, yum!!!Downloads will be offered to all whom dare!Piacere!!!
Feedback:
This is something I NEED to hear. I don't know any of this, but I cannot wait to be educated.
I dare! -- please...
Where do you find this stuff? Your bredth is beyond comprehension.
Yikes! this looks amazing. Count me in...
Bava! Morricone! Something wicked...
looks fantastico gnome.
"Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate"
This is just astounding looking, as I've come to expect from you. Grazie!

Quite astonishing!
O mio Dio!
Mamma Mia, you are on a roll Mr Gnome. Yes, I'd also love to hear this. The cover art is just terrific..
Totally scary.
All I know on here is Goblin & Morricone (natch), but the Italo-horror genre is some scary-ass shit man! Awesome.
Yes, please. I think. : )
Oh, this is a worthy candidate for mix dalla settimana, our life without this mix would be like a Lucio Fulci film without an eye-gouging scene. (P.S. I'd like to hear it too)

What alma said.
Gobsmacking. Yesterday I watched the new Texas Chainsaw at the cinema (it was my day off and I like shitty horror movies, alright?) and had an otherwise decent piece of gore ruined by some really bad music. So this looks great right now.
Holy sh*t. I would love to hear this too Chris.
wow! WOW! A bone-chilling mix with some fine liner notes. I won't be giving this the boot.
Congrats - Greatest Halloween Mix 2006! I'm off to cower behind the sofa.
I'm not sure whether to be more scared of the mix or the person who could produce such a thing...but I'd dare to listen all the same.
would certainly like to hear this! "Suspiria" is one my Halloween favorites, and I ended up watching the Fulci film referenced at #11 twice, once on video as "Seven Doors of Death" and again in theaters as "The Beyond." I recall a woman reaching into black water to unstop a disgustingly grimy bathtub, and also a blind woman's seeing-eye dog suddenly attacking her at the throat. and some really good music.
yes incredibly great stuff and a super halloween mix!
MUCH honored! I'm off to Philly for some Halloween Haunting: Eastern State Penitentiary's Terror Behind the Walls, Mutter Museum and Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride, (oh, it's just the kid in me)...Hence, I didn't want anyone to go wanting for a sample. So:Happy Halloween!!!!
Ho-lee crap! Can not wait to hear this - thanks a ton.
Scaturisce questo era uno slam dunk per MOTW. Congratulazioni! Spero la vostra casa che non si appoggia a come la torretta famosa in Piza...
Congrats to the fiendish gnome, richly deserved. Had this playing today while talking to a friend on the phone I think they wanted to send a priest around! My hair has now turned white too, its all good.
Oops, I'm the white haired guy.
Congrats on the MOTW, horrifying stuff!
Hurrah! A well deserved MOTW. And now with added bonus tracks, too.
Many congrats Chris, well deserved MOTW. Happy Halloween. wooooooh (ghost sound..)
How deliciously evil these Italian movies are... I'd love to dare for a download!
Standing headless shoulders above a slew of fine Halloween mixes in recent weeks. Congrats on MOTW!
Ah, the majesty that is Goblin. There was a moment, several years ago in a place called All Ears in Bloomington, Indiana that I have regreted from that instant forward: I held in my hands the collection of Goblin's best of the giallo scores... and due to a reticence concrening finances, when I left, I held nothing...Suspiria is one of my all time faves. Awesome film, like watching someone's nightmare. Congrats on MotW.
Oh. Yes. I forgot. *Age is not pretty!* I DARE!
This looks amazing!
Congrats on MoTW.
Congrats on MoTW.
Congratulations!!!
Congratulations, Italian stallion!
Not a huge fan of this genre, but I always found the soundtracks interesting. If the link's still alive count me in.
Man you are SO musically multilingual . . . & how can I resist a mix that features "strip nude for your killer"?
That is such a wonderful cover. Oh......you got MOTW for this thing? Hell, yeah. It reeks of professionalism. Gooreat.
