Dan Loves Laurie
Comment:
Segues mean nothing here, well they do in that its a narrative as I see it but I've tied it all together into my humble vision. ( if anyone is brave enough to want the 78 min mix that this spawned then I'm all ears) Mostly Dannys tape stuff but towards the end there are a few choice picks from the Linkous produced album. The movie made a huge and lasting impact on me, I venture that Rob C and Mark P feel the same. Anyway this is not a comfortable ride but it is a ride worth taking...
Feedback:
You beat me to it and yes, based upon our e-conversation a couple of weeks ago, I'm completely with you on that film. A bold single-artist mix (especially picking up that thread of his life) with great picks all around.
Of the several literary/filmic/musical references in your notes, I did not get a single one. But from the song titles it looks like a wild (and thoughtful) ride.
Reminds me that I really have to watch that movie - I don't think there's an excuse for the fact that I still haven't seen it. As far as I can tell from what I do know of the man and his music, looks like you did an excellent job with this mix!
Brilliant and disturbing, as is the man himself (and the cover I might add)
I agree with Mark here! Thanks for this...
If Elvis is the 'King of Rock n Roll' & Jacko the 'King of Pop', is Daniel Johnston the king of 'indie snobbery'?. I haven't seen the film yet although I plan to. Thanks for the link, I shall give this a listen as soon as I leave 1972 ( I love it here..)
I thank you....
A journey I've yet to take. One soon to be travelled though.
Yes, I need to investigate Mr Johnston further. This looks real nice.
One of my very favorite people, never heard anything quite like him. Have yet to see the movie though. King of indie snobbery? The man himself seems to be the king of humbleness ...
Name a song more heart-wrenching than "Sorry Entertainer". I dare you.
