The Bubblegum Factory
Comment:
It's 3 degrees outside so I felt the need to put together some audio central heating. Mostly picks from the hey day of bubblegum with some northern soul, soft psych and girlie pop thrown in for good measure. Apologies for some of the sound quality but the source material mainly came from 45 vinyl rips. Enjoy...Feedback:
Oh wowsie, Barry! This is utterly and completely the ginchiest! I wanna spend the whole weekend groovin' with you & Mr. Bloe!
This looks very fine indeed. My Tommy James choice would be Crimson And Clover but I'm not complaining. Excellent work!
The majority of these songs are impossible to find through search engines and file sharing programs, so I'm extremely jealous that you have this. No better time for bubblegum pop than November (except the even more dour January). If you do come through with a download, I will be forever in your debt; I'm really curious to hear tracks 10-17 and 27-29
Chewy, Chewy, Chewy!
Ahh yes XYZ I wrestled with that but in the end I went with I Think... It's not as good as the Tiffany original but it's close enough ;)
totally great - thanks!
Sweet. :-)
Yummy gummy! Plenty of lost treasures on this one, like the super catchy Two Dollar Question and Boyce and Hart. And yes, I'm up for a trade!
Loving 3. 12. 14 and 19 - 21. Am downloading now. What a treat! Thanks.
fantastic, love to hear it
Boy oh boy this looks like a rare treat. Fantastic stuff.
Loads of great picks here. Especially the Hudson and Andy Kim picks. I'm a big bubblegum fan, and there are several cuts here I've never even heard of.
Holy Frick! This doesn't burst my bubble...ah hah hah haaaahhh... And, I'm spent....This looks definative.
Love the Lance Link, especially!
Yep. It's mixes like this that make me love AOTM so much. Thanks for this. It's burnt to Cd and ready to be listened at full Volume on my way to work. Loads here I don't know but soon will. Mr Bloe :)
Hey Barry - I don't know a lot on here, but it seems to me that the Tommy James cut is not bubblegum. It was a great AM hit in the day, a la the Grass Roots or Box Tops. But I wouldn't think of them as bubblegum either, as I would the Archies or Fruitgum Company. It just seems like the songwriting is so good for groups like Shondells and the other two I mention with them that they transcend bubblegum.
Fair point Steve, I was pretty loose with the term and it started off as a bubblegum mix but I needed something meatier to balance it so yeah I took a bit of license with it, hence Al Wilson, Pickettywitch etc. 74 minutes of pure bubbles gives even me toothache. Perhaps I didn't address it properly in my comments, largely down to my own contempt for genres, one mans classical is another mans heavy metal or something. Cheers.
I'm not
Fuck knows what happened there! As I was about to say,"Mummy won't allow me to have bubblegum." But I've been a bad boy & downloaded it anyway. I'll get grounded but do I care!
Very cool.
The Snake! A cover of Yummy Yummy Yummy! Bang Shang-a-Lang! Indeed a musical era to remember.
very cool indeed my friend...a great looking mix!
Cool looking mix... look forward to giving this a listen on the way to work tomorrow....
Finally got around to listen to this now and it turns out it is even more awesome than I expected it to be, which is quite an achievement indeed. Thanks, Barry!
lots of fun, though if I don't get to hear "He Goes Blah Blah" again until I'm 82, I'd be ok with that. ;-) five and six are corkers, and I really dig 13, 15, 16 and 18 too.
Bang shang a lang kitty kitty, this sure is pretty!
Many grateful thanks for the generous download!
Many grateful thanks for the generous download!
Somehow managed to miss this one, Barry - wish I'd seen it on those frosty days (even if it was sunny!) Looks absolutely delicious, as is the cover. Excellent to see Lancelot Link there! Absolutely love the Tommy James pick too - great all round.
Wonderful 26
